Abstract

This research aims to reveal the text that contains the aesthetic value of coffee in the novel The Coffee Memory by Riawani Elyta using Ronald Tobin’s gastronomic approach. The method used in this study is a qualitative analysis involving the resercher’s reading, recording, and interpretation of the text in the novel. The data collection technique involved carrying out reading and note-taking activities, which would then be analyzed by identifying and interpreting data and linking the data findings with gastronomic theory. This study obtained the results that the image of coffee can relate to the experiences experienced by humans. Not only that, but coffee also has aesthetic value, starting from its name, art, and the history of these unique coffees. Through that, culinary can have differences from other culinary delights, ultimately making it a person's identity.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas cover Sitti Nurbaya. Masyarakat dalam cerita novel sangat menjunjung tinggi adab tradisional. Namun, setelah mengalami alih wahana, cerita yang disajikan mengalami perubahan struktur sosial yaitu masyarakat sudah mulai berani menyuarakan keresahannya. Ikonitas prosa melalui elemen semiotika gambar tersebut menjadi bahasan utama pada artikel ini. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah teori semiotika Pierce yang menyatakan bahwa tanda adalah sesuatu yang mewakili sesuatu yang lain dengan menghadirkan apa yang diwakilinya. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif yang melibatkan analisis mendalam terhadap tanda dan makna yang ada pada cover untuk menjelaskan fenomena semiotika berdasarkan pengamatan terhadap konteks, simbol, dan interpretasi. Hasil pada penelitian ini dapat dilihat dari tahun ke tahun, cover pada karya yang berjudul Sitti Nurbaya mengalami perkembangan mulai tahun 1980 hingga tahun 2021. Dengan adanya perubahan cover pada setiap cetakannya, bisa menceritakan kondisi hak perempuan pada tahun tersebut.
