Abstract

The very low learning outcomes of students, especially in mathematical communication skills regarding teaching and learning activities, is one source of problems in learning that must be overcome by every teaching staff. This research aims to see an increase in the mathematics communication learning outcomes of students who are taught using a generative model. Classroom Action Research (PTK) or Classroom Action Research (CAR) is this type of research. The subjects in this research were 30 class VIII students at a junior high school in the city of Palembang. The research flow uses the Kemmis and Mc flow. Taggart, the stages in this research are planning, action, observation and reflection which were carried out in two cycles. Data collection took the form of tests to measure mathematical communication skills and questionnaire sheets used to determine learning implementation. From the results of data analysis, the average student learning outcome in cycle I was 72.85 with a student completion percentage of 60%, the average student learning outcome in cycle II rose to 77.65 with a student completion percentage of 83.33%. Meanwhile, the results of the observation sheet show that the implementation of learning activities is going well. The conclusion is that mathematics learning taught by generative models can improve students' mathematical communication skills.

Abstract

Understanding concepts is very important in learning mathematics because the material in mathematics learning is interconnected between one material and another. To provide understanding of concepts, student-centered learning is needed. One student-centered learning model is the quantum learning model assisted by geogebra to visualize the material provided with the aim of supporting students' understanding of concepts. The aim of this research is to describe students' ability to understand mathematical concepts after applying the geogebra-assisted quantum learning model to cube and block material. This type of research is descriptive quantitative with a posttest only research design. The subjects in this research were students in class VIII.3 of SMP Ikhlasiyah Palembang. Data collection techniques use tests of ability to understand mathematical concepts and observation of teacher and student activities to see the application of the quantum learning model. The test results show that students' ability to understand mathematical concepts is in the good category with an average score of 80.02 which is measured based on indicators of understanding mathematical concepts and from observing teacher and student activities with an average teacher activity score of 93.05%. and 94.38% of student activity shows that the application of the quantum learning model is implemented very well in the learning process.

Abstract

The main issue in mathematics education at SMP Negeri 5 Sungai Rotan is the students' low understanding of mathematical concepts, with a mastery level of less than 70%. To address this problem, this study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model in improving students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The research utilized a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design, involving 60 seventh-grade students. The experimental class was taught using the TGT model, while the control class followed a conventional teaching approach. The research instruments included a mathematical understanding test, validated by experts and tested for reliability using the alpha coefficient. The results of the analysis showed that the students in the experimental group scored significantly higher than those in the control group, with a p-value of 0.001 < 0.05. Additionally, the TGT model proved effective not only in enhancing mathematical understanding but also in developing students' collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking skills. This research contributes to the application of innovative learning models in mathematics, particularly in fostering more active and interactive learning environments.
