Abstract

Goldilocks and The Bear is a novel transformed from The Story of the Three Bears and Aladdin and Magic Lamp fairy tales. The novel presents a non-linear plot since it mixed up the plot and characters from those fairy tales as its hypo-grams. The process of the mixture is surely not merely innovation, but it has a politic code appeared in it. This study is investigating the transformation the fairy tales into the novel, and entails the political code behind it. Hutcheon’s concept of poetics and politics of postmodernism is used to display the novel through its double sides; its structure (as well as its contexts) and ideological sphere. This study suggests that the novel is using and distorting in the fairy tales through the women characters; Goldilocks named Victoria, a new women character Safiyya, Bear male as Ramsey as representation of white male, and Aladdin as dark-skinned man. The composition of the characters actually represented political codes of gender and white supremacy in Western narrative. It is legitimating and subverting the narrative representation of woman and dark skinned people who used to be placed as marginal people in the western narrative. The novel, reversaly, raised other possibility that those peripheral characters (women and blacks) can be competed with central character (men and whites). The narrative text of Goldilocks and the Bear displayed the deconstruction of women and black characters who used to be depicted in negative label in literature and cultural product, especially in Western representation.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the portrait of the villain in the horror movie Await Further Instructions with a formulaic approach by J. G. Cawelti to provide an overview of movie development, especially the villain elements in horror movies. The descriptive-qualitative method was used in this research. The data for this research were collected by watching, pausing, identifying, classifying, and then analyzed by presenting, describing, and interpreting the data as well as concluding the analysis result. This research found four villain elements that are the same as horror villains in general (convention) and two different elements of villain (invention) that depict new sources of fear, such as motive antagonist (constructed by the media) and iconic symbol (mass media). The researcher concluded that in the horror movie Await Further Instructions, there is development in the elements of the villain that depict or represent people today being more afraid of mass media power than supernatural or unexplainable powers, such as ghosts, aliens, monsters, serial killers, and others.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the role of women in the environment from the perspective of ecofeminism. The researcher uses Karen J. Warren's theory of ecofeminism to determine the level of concern and the role of women in environmental issues. This research employs qualitative methods. The data source for this research is the 'Ainbo' movie. The results show that elements of capitalism, which pursue profit through the relentless exploitation of natural resources and labor, are visible in the practice of illegal gold mining in the Amazon. These activities cause significant environmental damage, and women are often the chief victims of their negative effects. This capitalist system has received strong criticism from the women's movement because, besides promoting environmental degradation, it also exacerbates the oppression of women in the Amazon forest area. The researcher concludes that nature and women have a close relationship, with both often experiencing exploitation. Male characters are depicted as representatives of capitalism who exploit natural resources for personal gain. In contrast, women are depicted as having a deep closeness to nature, reflecting their feminine principles, which emphasize protecting and saving the environment. The role of women as saviors of the environment stands out in contrast to the destructive actions carried out by male capitalists.
