Abstract

The objective of the research is to analyze the effect of the using Riddle Technique to increase the students’ vocabulary mastery. This research is conducted in SMA Swasta Kartika 1-4 Pematangsiantar. The population of this research is class X at SMA Swasta Kartika Pematangsiantar. In which total class X are 6 classes as many as totally is 228 students. In this research, the researcher uses random sampling. the sample of this research is students of X IS-1at SMA Swasta Kartika 1-4 Pematangsiantar, as many as 38 students and this research was just conducted one class with two cycle. This research method use a quantitative method and was designed in a Classroom Action Research. The focus of this research is intended to answer the problem about teaching vocabulary by using riddle technique to the tenth IS-1 grade students of SMA Swasta Kartika Pematangsiantar is effective or not. In this part, the data is calculated to show the total of score of pre-test and post-test, to show the avarage score of pre-test and post-test, to show the standart deviation and to show the significant difference.From the data analysis above the total score of pre-test is 1911 and the total score of post-test I is 3169. The avarage of post-test I is 83,39. Then the researcher do the post-test II and the total score is 3437. The avarage of the post-test II is 90,45. The value of mean score different is 7,06. The value of t-test is 9,29, the standart deviation is 8 and the significant difference is 0,9.Based on the result of the data analysis, it was obtained that there is difference of post-test I and post-test II namely : the mean score different is 7,06, t-test is 9,29, the standart deviation is 8 and the significant difference is 0,9. It means that the use of riddles technique is effective for teaching vocabulary to the tenth grade IS-1 SMA Swasta Kartika Pematangsiantar. From the result of the research can be conclude that riddle technique can give effect to increase students’ vocabulary mastery in describing people

Abstract

Writing is the difficult skill to master that is why exercise regularly needed. The objective of this study is to know the usage of running dictation method improves the students’ writing descriptive text. This experimental research was carried out in MTs Mesra Pematangsiantar in the academic year of 2020/2021. The research design of this study is classroom action research with quantitative approach. The population of this study is all students grade eight at junior high school, they are 212 students were divided into six classes. And as a sample of this study consist of 30% from the population were VIII-1 as the experimental group and VIII-2 as the control group. Each group consist of 35 students. The experimental group was treated by usage Running Dictation Method, while the control group was treated by using Direct Instruction. The finding of this research are the score pre-test in control group are 1740 where the mean is 49,71 and in experimental group 1542 where the mean is 44,05. The mean score of different in control group is 15,77 and the t-test is 4,86 The standard deviation of the data in control group is 11,01 and the effect size in teaching writing descriptive text in control group is 1,43 It means that the students ability is low. The students’ score post-test in control group are 2292 where mean is 65,48 and in experimental group are 3023 where the mean is 86,37 The mean score of different in experimental group is 42,32 and t-test for experimental group is 5,88. The standard deviation of the data in experimental group is 14,41 and the effect size in experimental group is 2,93. It means that the students ability is high. The data analysis show the following findings: (1) Usage Running Dictation Method is more effective than Direct Instruction in teaching writing, (2) students with high creativity have better writing ability than those having low creativity, (3) there is an interaction between usage running dictation method and teamwork between students in teaching writing

Abstract

In speaking, media are helpful in improving students’ speaking skill. This research is about Improving Students’ Speaking Skill by Using Word Wall Media at the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 10 Pematangsiantar in the academic year 2019/2020. The material which will be tested is about descriptive text. The students are lack of confidence in speaking English because they think their pronunciation is not good and it makes them difficult to produce meaningful sentences. In this research, the researcher try to apply the Word Wall Media as the media in teaching speaking. The main objectives of this research are to find out the speaking skill of the students after being taught using Word Wall Media. the samples of this research were 14 students of seventh grade. The data were form of quantitative data. The step of research procedure are conducting pre-test, treatment, post-test, and data analysis. The result of the students’ progress during the teaching learning process by using word wall media was good. The finding also proved that in pre-test students average score was 38.571 and post-test score was improved to 81.875 and standart deviation of pre-test score was 3.498 and standart deviation of post-test score was 4.857. It means that the teacher could use Word Wall Media as one of the media in improving students’ speaking skill
