Abstract

The present study examined the role of shallot extract concentration and seed immersion duration in improving mung bean (Vigna radiata L.) growth and yield. Field experimentation was undertaken at the Experimental Farm of Panca Budi Development University, North Sumatra, Indonesia, between December 2025 and February 2026. A two factor factorial randomized block design was applied with three replications. Shallot extract concentrations consisted of: K0 = 0 ml, K1 = 100 ml/liter of water, K2 = 200 ml/liter of water, and K3= 300 ml/liter of water. The second factor was the soaking time (W) consisting of: W0 = 0 minutes, W1 = 30 minutes, and W2 = 60 minutes. The parameters observed were plant height (cm), flowering age (days), number of productive branches, root length (cm), number of pods per sample (pods), number of pods per plot (pods), seed weight per sample (g), seed weight per plot (g), and weight of 100 seeds per plot (g). Results revealed that the application of 200 ml/liter of water (K2) shallot extract produced the most desirable growth and production responses. Likewise, soaking seeds for W2 (60 minutes) promoted better overall plant performance compared with shorter immersion periods.
