Abstract

Abstract

Background: VO₂max is the primary indicator of a soccer athlete's aerobic capacity, but in tropical climates like Bima, high temperatures and humidity can affect VO₂max achievement. Hence, the timing of training is an important factor to consider. Objectives: This study aims to analyze differences in VO₂max across training times (morning and afternoon) in 15-year-old youth soccer athletes from the Bima Football Association (PERSSEBI). Methods: The study used a quantitative, comparative, cross-sectional observational design. The study subjects were 45 athletes (age 15.31±0.46; height 163.12±4.35 cm; weight 55.28±3.67 kg; and body mass index (BMI) 20.78±1.18 kg/m²) from the Bima Football Association (PERSEBI), selected by purposive sampling, and divided into morning (n=23) and afternoon (n=22) training groups. VO₂max was measured using a multistage fitness test (Bleep Test). Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, the Levene homogeneity test, and the independent-samples t-test at a significance level of 0.05, using IBM SPSS 25. Results: The descriptive analysis showed that the average VO₂max of the morning group was 43.78 ± 2.34 ml/kg/minute, higher than that of the afternoon group (42.91 ± 2.29 ml/kg/minute). The results of the independent sample t-test showed that there was a significant difference in VO₂max between the two groups with a t value = 2.14 with df = 43 and a significant p value = 0.04 (p < 0.05) with an average difference of 0.87 ml/kg/minute indicating that the morning exercise group had a higher Vo2max value than the afternoon exercise group. Conclusions: These findings suggest that training time contributes to differences in athletes' VO₂max values in tropical environments, with morning training resulting in higher performance than afternoon training. Therefore, scheduling training that accounts for environmental conditions is crucial for optimizing athletes' VO₂max.

Abstract

Study purpose. This study aims to determine the effect of the traditional game ‘Mpa'a Gopa’ on the interpersonal intelligence character values of primary school students, which includes three main aspects: focus, cooperation, and strategy. Materials and methods. A quasi-experimental quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects were 15 students, 8 girls and 7 boys aged 12-13 years. The instrument used was a questionnaire about the effectiveness of the ‘Mpa'a Gopa’ game, which had undergone validity testing with all items declared valid (calculated r > table r) and reliability testing with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.873, which is considered reliable. Data collection was conducted using a pretest-posttest method through the application of the ‘Mpa'a Gopa’ game. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and a paired t-test with the help of SPSS 25. Results. Descriptive analysis results showed an increase in the average score of the application of ‘Mpa'a Gopa’ in the aspect of cooperation from 61.20 to 79.33, the aspect of focus from 63.47 to 77.67, and the aspect of strategy from 61.73 to 78.20. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test results showed a sig value of 0.200 > 0.05, meaning that the data was normally distributed. The results of the paired sample t-test showed a t-count of 20.56 (cooperation), 14.77 (focus), 17.75 (strategy) with a sig of 0.000 < 0.05, which means there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. Conclusion. The traditional game of ‘Mpa'a Gopa’ has been proven to have a significant effect on improving the interpersonal intelligence of fifth-grade students at SDN Inpres Teke, particularly in terms of their ability to cooperate, maintain focus, and develop strategies.

Abstract

Strengthening soft skills is an essential objective of physical education in higher education, as prospective physical education teachers are required to demonstrate leadership, collaboration, and professional responsibility. The Sport Education Model (SEM) is a pedagogical approach that provides authentic learning experiences by engaging students as participants, coaches, referees, and team managers. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of SEM and its association with the development of soft skills among students in the Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR) program, given the limited studies examining SEM in Indonesian higher education. A qualitative descriptive method was employed with 60 students from STKIP Taman Siswa Bima as participants. Data were obtained through observations, interviews, and student reflection journals collected over one semester. The patterns of change in students' soft skills during the observation period were described by converting observation and reflection indicators into percentage distributions. The results showed that leadership (68%), teamwork (50%), communication (54%), responsibility (48%), and problem-solving (52%) each had a percentage pattern. These percentages represent the distribution of observed behaviors across the five soft-skill dimensions recorded during the learning period and indicate observable developments in leadership, teamwork, communication, responsibility, and problem-solving within the higher education context examined. The findings reveal patterns of collaborative interaction, role engagement, and interpersonal communication during the learning process, reflecting the presence of these five soft-skill dimensions. SEM is a contextually appropriate instructional approach for supporting these soft skills dimensions among physical education students in comparable higher education settings, based on the observed patterns.
