Abstract

In agriculture, irrigation is important, one of the factors that will ensure agriculture runs well is irrigation. Artificial irrigation can be a solution to this problem, but creating artificial irrigation requires quite a large cost. Therefore, Dinas Tanaman Pangan dan Holtikultura is helping farmers to develop a tertiary plot irrigation network covering an area of less than 1000 hectares. With so many applications coming to the Dinas Tanaman Pangan dan Holtikuoltura, the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process method could be a solution for determining irrigation development priorities. The results of the analysis used the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process with the criteria: Irrigation Area, Area of Rice Fields Served by Irrigation, Irrigation Development Costs, and Construction Time and alternatives: Sunggal Irrigation Area, Teluk Mengkudu Irrigation Area, Pantai Cermin Irrigation Area, Medang Deras Irrigation Area, Lima Puluh Pesisir Irrigation Area, Gunung Malela Irrigation Area, Nagori Silulu Irrigation Area, Juhar Irrigation Area, Sayur Matinggi Irrigation Area, Panyabungan Irrigation Area and Panyabungan Barat Irrigation Area, namely the Lima Puluh Pesisir area is ranked first in the priority of irrigation development in North Sumatra with a value of 0.852

Abstract

Imbalance in learning readiness levels and age diversity (multi-age) in elementary schools often pose challenges in teaching abstract 3D geometry concepts. This Community Service Project (PkM) aimed to implement multi-age differentiated instruction through a combination of concrete media (sticks and modeling clay) and PhET digital simulations to enhance students' understanding of 3D geometric shapes. The project involved 4th and 5th-grade students grouped heterogeneously, a team of lecturers as supervisors and evaluators, and university students as facilitating mentors. The implementation method adopted a Blended Experiential Learning framework consisting of four stages: initial diagnostic mapping, student mentor training, differentiated learning intervention (introduction, concrete and digital exploration stations, and student product presentations), and evaluation. The results indicated a significant improvement in students' conceptual understanding of geometry, evidenced by an increase in the mean student score from 47.17 (pre-test) to 85.16 (post-test), with an average N-gain score of 0.72 (high category). The synergy of blended media successfully facilitated students' cognitive transition from the concrete operational stage to visual-abstract comprehension, while multi-age grouping triggered effective peer tutoring. The active participation rate reached 92%, proving that this approach is adaptive and inclusive in accommodating the heterogeneity of elementary school students.

Abstract

The SOLE learning model facilitates students to learn independently through exploration and group discussion, with a focus on solving relevant and challenging problems. This community service activity aims to improve the competencies of both teachers and students in mathematics learning, particularly in algebra, through the implementation of the SOLE (Self-Organized Learning Environment) model based on Big Questions. The SOLE model is designed to encourage students to learn independently and collaboratively through open-ended questions that stimulate critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This activity was conducted at a partner junior high school, involving both teachers and students as participants in training and mentoring sessions. The methods employed in this program included the dissemination of the SOLE and Big Question concepts, training in lesson planning, and guided classroom implementation. The results of the activity showed an improvement in teachers' understanding of innovative teaching strategies, as well as positive responses from students, who demonstrated active engagement, increased curiosity, and better conceptual understanding of algebra. This community service initiative provides a tangible contribution to strengthening teachers’ capacity in designing meaningful instruction and in creating a learning environment that promotes student autonomy and creativity. The application of the SOLE model based on Big Questions has proven to be an effective approach to delivering mathematics instruction in a more contextualized and enjoyable manner.
