Abstract

This study aims to analyze the moral values that can be found in the Sad Girls Novel by Lang Leav which are the values of friendship, social behavior, responsibility, and maturity. Moral values are related to human behavior, in terms of what is considered good and bad. The values of friendship are mutual understanding between individuals, understanding everything that is liked, hated, needed. While social behavior leads to the formation of a good personality. Responsibility instead is a moral which describes a person's ability to show quality personal in their work, and maturity is an important form of moral intelligence which is the mental capacity to determine how universal human principles are. The research method used is qualitative method by choosing the dialogues that contain moral values, and the description is written using the concept of literary representation with a dynamic structuralism to propose the idea of moral values in the chosen dialogue. The result of this research shows moral characters portrayed in the novel by Audrey consistently indicated how she was being a good friend, involving in various social situations, being a responsible and mature individual with the people around her, and the main characters’ behaviors are giving the readers dialogue and actions that showed their interests and personality which brought the 4 mentioned moral values.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to provide understanding to the readers and increase their knowledge about the Margondang process in Batak Angkola wedding, so that they can easily understand it. Researchers analyzed using the theory of Ferdinand De Saussure (1857). The analysis in this study uses qualitative research methods. To support the analysis, researchers used books, journals and theses. Researchers obtained the data from videos and photos. The result search that the process of the Margondang ceremony in the Batak Angkola wedding goes through three stages and each of the traditional events carried out contains moral values.

Abstract

Every ethnic group has its own cultural identity and is used as a reference to distinguish between one ethnic group and another. Understanding cultural identity is important to avoid cultural conflicts so that all ethnic groups within a unitary society can live side by side in harmony. The core discussion in this research is related to Chinese cultural identity based on the novel To Live written by Yu Hua with two points of discussion, kinship system and marriage system, conducted by means of a qualitative descriptive method to obtain data related to social phenomena with the results of the analysis in the form of description. Concepts and theories relating to cultural identity, Chinese cultural identity, kinship and marriage systems are implemented to support the overall research. The results of the analysis show that wherever Chinese ethnic groups are located, they try to maintain their cultural traditions. In Chinese culture, kinship includes all members of the extended family and the essence of a marriage is the union of two extended families; both have values that must be used as guidelines based on the teachings of Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism; the value of maintaining and preserving harmonization and norms to bind each individual to remain in the corridor of cultural tradition heritage.
