Abstract

In today’s family environment, the division of tasks, roles, and responsibilities still often uses gender as a primary benchmark. This condition is especially visible in determining who is considered responsible for earning a living and who is expected to carry out work in the domestic sphere. Such role division is commonly viewed as normal by many people, particularly those who do not yet understand gender equality in depth. In general, they only interpret gender equality as the right of men and women to stand equally, without connecting it to everyday role distribution within the family. Therefore, this research aims to examine students’ perceptions of gender equality regarding roles in the family environment, since knowledge about gender among students needs to be expanded and strengthened. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach with descriptive qualitative analysis to describe the research findings. Based on the students’ perspectives as individuals who are pursuing higher education, they have begun to understand the general concept of gender equality. However, their understanding remains limited, especially in relation to how gender equality should be applied in family life, including shared responsibilities, domestic work, and economic roles between men and women in daily household practices.
