Abstract

The objective of this paper is to examine the factors that influence the resilience and adaptability of banks to economic disruption. The aim is to encourage a collaborative and cooperative approach to these challenges. This study analyses the impact of monetary policies, inflation trends, and bank-specific determinants on bank profitability in the African and Middle Eastern regions. A quantitative research approach was used to assess macro and micro factors affecting bank profitability, using secondary data. The macro variables were obtained from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the micro variables were extracted from the banks' annual accounts. The research findings indicate that monetary policy and inflation have significant impacts on banks' profitability. Additionally, the System Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) model revealed that the annual interest rate (IR), inflation (INF), capital adequacy ratio (CAR), and previous financial performance (Lagged ROA/ROE) have positive and significant effects on both ROA and ROE. In addition, the loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR) had a significant positive effect on ROE, while the non-performing loan ratio (NPLr) had a significant negative effect. The validity and suitability of the GMM regression model used in this study were confirmed by the AR(2) and Sargan Test results. These findings provide valuable insights for decision-makers in the banking sector to respond to changes in monetary policy and manage risks associated with inflation fluctuations. The study emphasizes the importance of capital management and credit risk management in sustaining bank profitability amidst economic uncertainty.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of financial performance and ESG disclosure on firm value for companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) that are included in the IDX ESG Score index for the year 2024. Financial performance is indicated by Return on Assets (ROA), firm value is quantified using Tobin's Q, and ESG disclosure is denoted by the ESG score released by IDX. Grounded in agency theory, stakeholder theory, and signaling theory, the study utilises a quantitative associative methodology, drawing on secondary data from annual reports and sustainability reports. A purposive sampling method produced a final sample of 58 companies. Multiple linear regression analysis was applied following classical assumption tests. The findings demonstrate that ROA significantly enhances firm value, whereas ESG disclosure exhibits a favourable albeit statistically minor impact on tobin’s Q. Simultaneously, both variables significantly influence firm value, with an Adjusted R-squared of 13.7%, suggesting that additional factors beyond the model explain the majority of firm value variation. These studies confirm that in the Indonesian capital market, financial performance remains the primary signal for investors, while ESG disclosure functions as a supporting signal not yet fully priced by the market.

Abstract

Interest in capital market investments continues to increase, along with improved access to information and digital platforms that make it easier for the younger generation to invest. However, psychological phenomena such as FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), YOLO (You Only Live Once) and FOPO (Fear of Other People`s Opinions) often affect their investment decisions. FOMO, in particular, can cause young investors to make rash investment decisions without careful consideration. This study aims to empirically test whether financial knowledge and risk preferences affect investment decision which mediated by financial behavior. Research used quantitative methods with descriptive, statistical analysis, and a sample of 150 respondents who were young investors aged 18-30 years in Cirebon. The findings of the analysis indicated that financial knowledge and risk preferences influences investment decision, and financial behavior successful as a mediator. It can be inferred that increasing financial knowledge and understanding of risk preferences can help young people make more rational investment decisions, despite the influence of psychological factors such as FOMO and others.

The rapid development of financial technology has transformed the way individuals conduct financial transactions, particularly through digital payment systems such as e-wallets. This research employs a quantitative method using a survey approach. Data were collected from 387 studentss of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results indicate that fintech payment and financial attitude have a positive and significant influence on financial management behavior. Furthermore, self-control plays a significant mediating role in the relationship between fintech payment and financial attitude toward financial management behavior. These findings suggest that although financial technology offers convenience in financial transactions, self-control remains an important factor in supporting responsible financial behavior.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of financial literacy on the financial performance of food micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Cirebon City, with digital capability as a mediating variable. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing primary data collected from 100 food MSME owners through purposive sampling and a closed-ended Likert-scale questionnaire. Financial literacy was operationalized across three dimensions: financial understanding, financial skills, and financial knowledge. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results reveal that all three dimensions of financial literacy have a positive and significant impact on financial performance. Furthermore, financial literacy positively and significantly influences digital capability, which in turn positively affects financial performance. Digital capability partially mediates the relationship between financial literacy and financial performance. By disaggregating financial literacy into three independently measured constructs and positioning digital capability as a mediating mechanism, this study offers novel empirical insights, particularly within the underexplored context of small-scale food MSMEs in Cirebon City

Abstract

The research was conducted in response to the financial challenges faced by the textile sector, especially PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (Sritex), whose profitability declined significantly as operating expenses continued to increase. The study is grounded in Cost Efficiency Theory and Capital Budgeting Theory to evaluate expenditure efficiency and the appropriateness of investment allocation. An associative quantitative research approach was employed. Data were collected through documentation of secondary data consisting of 40 quarterly financial statements from the company covering the period 2014–2023, officially obtained from the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The statistical test results demonstrate that both operational cost budgets and investment budgets have a positive and significant effect on profitability (ROA), both partially and simultaneously. The findings further indicate that the investment budget is the most dominant predictor influencing the company's financial performance. In conclusion, the synergy between short-term operational cost control and effective capital expenditure management is essential for large-scale manufacturing companies to maintain competitiveness and profitability.

Abstract

Digital financial transformation has accelerated the use of e-wallets among Generation Z, while concerns regarding financial literacy, perceived risk, and the growing availability of PayLater features shape financial behavior. This study aims to examine the effects of financial literacy, risk perception, and PayLater features on Generation Z’s decisions to use e-wallets in Cirebon City. A quantitative explanatory approach was employed using primary data collected through questionnaires from 95 Generation Z respondents selected by purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 32 through descriptive statistics, validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression, t-tests, F-tests, and the coefficient of determination. The results show that financial literacy has a positive but insignificant effect on e-wallet usage decisions (B = 0.215; p = 0.060), risk perception has a positive but insignificant effect (B = 0.063; p = 0.333), and PayLater features also have a positive but insignificant effect (B = 0.141; p = 0.085). However, the three variables simultaneously have a significant effect (F = 3.133; p = 0.029), with an Adjusted R² of 0.064. The study concludes that Generation Z’s e-wallet usage decisions are influenced by the combined interaction of these factors rather than their individual effects.
