Abstract

This research analyzed the determinant of timeliness of local government financial reporting on the financial statements of 508 local governments from 2015 to 2019 financial periods in Indonesia. With secondary data based on the total sampling method, this research used a panel data regression fixed effect model. This study found that financial control and local government revenues positively affected the timeliness of local government financial reporting, local government capital expenditures and the complexity of local governments. Each had an insignificant positive and negative effect on local government financial reporting timeliness. From this study, local governments must increase the capacity of financial supervisors, so the process of financial supervision of local governments can run well, from planning and implementation to reporting on LKPD.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the moderation effect of the audit committee on the linkages between audit firm size, industry specialization, and the cost of equity capital with firm size and financial leverage as a control variable. This study is one of few that compared the accuracy of Ohlson and Capital Asset Pricing Model in explaining the cost of equity capital and the moderation role of the audit committee. A sample of 123 manufacturing firm-year observations was drawn from Indonesian-listed companies for five years period (2016-2020). The results show that while the audit committees significantly moderate the negative relationship between firm size on the cost of equity capital, there is no significant evidence of the moderation role of the audit committee on the relationship between industry specialization and the cost of equity capital using the Capital Asset Pricing Model. On the contrary, the moderation role of the audit committees on the effect of industry specialization toward the cost of equity capital under Ohlson was supported in the study. Further, it found that the Ohlson has a better performance than the Capital Asset Pricing Model in explaining the cost of equity capital as the Ohlson measurement expressed the role of earnings per share which represent a more real rate of return.

Abstract

This study aims to seek empirical evidence on the effect of voluntary carbon disclosure on financial performance and investment efficiency of companies in Indonesia before the HPP Law. This study uses panel data analysis with a sample of 644 companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The 2019-2020 sample was used because in 2021 there is already a law governing carbon tax. The results showed that the company's voluntary carbon disclosure has no influence on financial performance, both in the short and long term but has a positive influence on the company's investment efficiency. This research highlights the importance of voluntary carbon disclosure in building trust and support from stakeholders, which can provide benefits to the company in the form of investment efficiency and better financial performance. This research presents a more complex measure of voluntary carbon disclosure linked to financial performance and investment efficiency.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Local Public Service Agency Financial Management Pattern (PPK-BLUD) at Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in Karanganyar Regency. This research uses secondary data from documentation of local financial management regulations, organizational structure and profile of BLUD, financial management documents, unaudited and audited financial reports, as well as management letters from the audit of BLUD financial statement. Our analysis was carried out with an in-depth overview of PPK-BLUD implementation that has been running until 2023 and evaluating its implementation based on the applicable regulations and best business practices. This research found that the implementation of PPK-BLUD at Puskesmas in Karanganyar Regency has been implemented quite well in terms of legality, human resources, and the BLUD financial management process. However, there are still several limitations in terms of human resources competency in the financial sector, there are no technical regulations, and coordination and review are not yet optimal. Due to the limitations still being faced, the BLUD Puskesmas in Karanganyar Regency is recommended to develop technical regulations for BLUD financial management guidelines, increase human resources and/or provide adequate training, as well as improve coordination, monitoring and review with vertical agencies. Finally, it can be expected that the implementation of PPK-BLUD will be more established, orderly, and accountable.

Abstract

This study explores how an Islamic label on firms influences stock price crash risk in Indonesia. We utilize a sample of 566 nonfinancial firms listed between 2016 and 2021, apply panel data method, and find that the Islamic label benefits the firms by lowering crash risk. Investors consider firms with the Islamic label as lower risk due to leverage constraints they must adhere to, which contributes to a decreased crash risk. Our primary results are robust to various sensitivity analyses. We also find that dividend policy and audit quality strengthen the Islamic label-crash risk nexus. The COVID-19 pandemic weakens the link between the Islamic label and crash risk. Furthermore, the Islamic label-crash risk nexus persists for up to two years.
