Abstract

Strengthening national consciousness faces increasingly complex challenges due to globalization, identity politics, and information disruption in the digital age. These conditions call for a model of political communication capable of contextualizing national values through an approach that is closely attuned to the social realities of the community. This study aims to analyze national framing through cultural da’wah (preaching) implemented by K.H. Abdullah Syafi’ie as a political communication strategy in building national consciousness. The method used is qualitative research with a descriptive-interpretive approach through discourse analysis of K.H. Abdullah Syafi’ie’s sermons, da’wah practices, and thoughts within a socio-religious context. The results of the study indicate that K.H. Abdullah Syafi’ie frames national consciousness through Islamic values such as amanah, ukhuwah, unity, and the common good, which are communicated through a cultural da’wah approach using symbolic and cultural language that resonates with the community. This framing produces a national identity that is inclusive, religious, and adaptive to social dynamics. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of the framing perspective into the study of political communication and cultural da’wah to explain the formation of national consciousness at the grassroots level. The findings of this study suggest that cultural da'wah can serve as an effective instrument of political communication in strengthening social cohesion and national resilience amid the challenges of the digital age.

Abstract

An intimate relationship between two people can develop through several factors, including the length of their interaction and equality in education, economic status, and culture. This study aimed to examine how such closeness was formed by analysing the communication between President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and Merry Riana as recorded in the book The Mentor. The study employed qualitative text analysis with discourse analysis of the conversations between the two figures, supported by the Miles and Huberman analytical model. The results showed that Merry was able to reach the innermost layer of SBY’s personality, so that the fourth stage of social penetration was achieved. Through Merry’s questions, SBY revealed his most personal stories, including accounts that had previously been little known to the public. This success stemmed from a long period of interaction since 2011 and SBY’s family’s attention to Merry’s track record as a motivational speaker.

Abstract

Waste management in Bekasi Regency has become an urgent challenge due to the increasing population and industrialization, which have exceeded the capacity of available landfills. As a strategic response, the Bekasi Regency Government enacted Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 2 of 2025 concerning waste management. This research aims to analyze and empirically measure the influence of the political communication strategy of the local government on the effectiveness of socializing this regulation. This study employs a quantitative explanatory approach using a survey method. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 100 respondents selected via stratified random sampling from three representative districts: East Cikarang, Kedung Waringin, and Central Cikarang. In this study, the independent variables include Message Delivery, Media Selection, Frequency of Socialization, and Communicator Credibility, while the dependent variable is the Effectiveness of Socialization, which is measured by the levels of public knowledge and participation. The results of the inferential statistical analysis indicate that message delivery, media selection, socialization frequency, and communicator credibility have a significant positive effect on socialization effectiveness. Communicator credibility and media selection exert the most dominant influence on public understanding. This study offers a novel perspective by integrating the dimensions of political communication into waste management policies in a highly industrialized region. The policy implications suggest that the Bekasi Regency Government must shift from conventional top-down dissemination to a more participatory approach, utilizing digital media and optimizing local community leaders to enhance public compliance and long-term environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Maintaining integrity and professional morality amid the secondary disruption of the broadcasting media industry due to Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration has become crucial and vital. AI carries the risk of bias and hallucination, while regulations are not yet fully capable of anticipating this "AI tsunami." This research is highly important as a source of input and consideration for journalism stakeholders to protect the integrity of the newsroom, ensuring it remains sterile from the negative impacts of AI. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the multiplier effect of artificial intelligence (AI) on press integrity in Indonesia and to evaluate the effectiveness of existing domestic legal instruments. Beyond the framework of domestic law, this discussion also attempts to examine the Islamic perspective on the AI "tsunami," which can be misused to generate hoaxes and misinformation. The methodology employed is descriptive and qualitative through a normative-legal approach, using a critical paradigm as the analytical tool. The methodological analysis reveals an asymmetrical misalignment between the evolutionary speed of generative technology and the scope of formal normative law, which triggers regulatory gaps that are vulnerable to exploitation for capital accumulation. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of the legal deconstruction of Press Council Regulation (Peraturan Dewan Pers) Number 1 of 2025 with an analysis of viewers' visual cognitive impact, using Ulric Neisser’s Cognitivism Theory, Elihu Katz’s Uses and Gratifications Theory, David Manning White’s Gatekeeping Theory, and the concept of Tabayyun in Islamic theology. The implications of this research emphasize the urgent need for operational policy reform in newsrooms that positions human journalists as absolute ethical quality controllers to safeguard the public sphere from the threat of machine-manufactured audiovisual disinformation.
