Abstract

The implementation of the Philosophy of Defense Science in defense policy and national defense administration, aiming to enhance the nation’s defense capabilities. Through a philosophical approach encompassing ontology, epistemology, and axiology, the article explains the importance of applying philosophy to understand and develop Defense Science. The method used is a literature review, which examines the role of Defense Science in addressing both military and non-military threats, as well as its application in national defense policies such as the Total People’s Defense System (Sishankamrata). The key findings show that the Philosophy of Defense Science contributes to increasing awareness of national defense and citizen participation. In conclusion, this philosophy plays a crucial role in shaping holistic and participatory defense policies, involving all elements of the nation.

Abstract

Multicultural Education of BAM as Local Content for Character Development in West Sumatra" aims to analyze the role of multicultural education based on local wisdom in Budaya Alam Minangkabau (BAM) as a local content subject in shaping students' character in West Sumatra. This study employs a library research method, utilizing data sources from books and relevant scientific journals. The findings indicate that multicultural education based on Minangkabau customary values, such as Adat Basandi Syara', Syara' Basandi Kitabullah and Alam Takambang Jadi Guru, strengthens cultural identity and fosters students’ ethical behavior, tolerance, and adaptability to social diversity. However, challenges such as modernization, globalization, and the declining role of traditional leaders threaten the continuity of these cultural values. Therefore, synergy among families, schools, the government, and the community is crucial to ensuring the sustainability of multicultural education based on local wisdom.

Abstract

Radicalism remains an ideological threat in Indonesia and has the potential to infiltrate religious educational institutions, including pesantren. Several findings indicate that a small number of pesantren have been associated with exclusive and intolerant teachings. This study aims to examine the implementation of Pancasila values at Pondok Pesantren Diniyyah Pasia and its role in preventing the spread of radicalism in Agam Regency. This research employs a library research approach. The findings show that Pesantren Diniyyah Pasia practices Pancasila through the strengthening of faith and morality, the promotion of tolerance, multicultural student life, decision-making through deliberation, and social and economic engagement. These practices reinforce students’ nationalism and serve as a barrier against radicalism. Although the pesantren demonstrates strong commitment to moderation and national values, continued oversight of educational processes is necessary to prevent the infiltration of intolerant ideologies. Thus, Pesantren Diniyyah Pasia holds strategic potential as a model for strengthening Pancasila and preventing radicalism at the local level.
