Abstract

Introduction: Moringa oleifera is a plant from the Moringa genus which has many benefits because it contains many bioactive compounds, so it is often used as traditional medicine. Objective: to determine the antimicrobial inhibitory power of fractions from Moringa cortex extract against several pathogenic microbes including Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtillis, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermis, Streptococcus mutans, Pseudomonas aeureginosa, Salmonella typhi, Vibrio cholera and Candida albicans. Methods: Extraction was carried out using a multilevel maceration method according to the level of polarity, namely n-hexane, ethyl acetate and 70% ethanol, then the extract activity was screened until it was known that the ethyl acetate extract had the highest antimicrobial activity, so fractionation was carried out. The fractionation results then obtained fractions I, II, III and IV which were tested again for their antimicrobial activity with respective concentrations, namely 1000, 750, 500 and 250 μg/mL. Results: Fraction III had the highest activity as an antibacterial against the bacteria Eschericia coli, Salmonella typhi, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermis and Vibrio cholera. Conclusion: From the results of Bioautography TLC analysis, it was found that there were 3 clear zone spots which were known to be the class of compounds that were active as antibacterials in fraction III, namely triterpenes, flavonoids, and alkaloids.

Abstract

North Luwu Regency in Indonesia is known for its cocoa production, which was once the largest in the area. The Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) of North Luwu Regency has identified cocoa as a superior regional commodity. The Chalodo Sibali Resoe cocoa processing industry, part of the Makkuraga Sibali Resoe Industrial Producer Cooperative, leads the cocoa bean processing industry in North Luwu. This community partnership program aims to develop new non-food products and boost sales of Chalodo products to increase business profits. The program includes socialization, training, technology application, mentoring and evaluation, and ensuring program sustainability. As part of the community service activities, efforts to develop chocolate-based aromatherapy innovations have been successful, resulting in improved partner skills and the creation of two commercial products.

Abstract

The use of plants for aromatherapy has a long-standing tradition. One common application is the creation of massage oils and roll-on products made from essential oils. When inhaled or applied to the skin, essential oils can stimulate the sensory system, helping to alleviate symptoms of headaches and migraines and promote relaxation. This community service initiative aimed to empower residents to create simple products using essential oils from local plants. The activity took place in June 2025 in Cendana Putih Village, located in the Mappadeceng District of North Luwu Regency, and involved participation from village officials and community members. As a result of this initiative, massage oils and roll-on products were developed using various essential oils.
