Abstract

Man, on the one hand, is understood as a creation on earth, like all earthly things, and on the other hand, a man appears on earth and seeks to reach a higher life. Higher life here is a level of life that has a higher quality in a more transcendental sense compared to everyday life in this world. Humans can thus be understood in essence or human existence along with the activities and characteristics attached to it. So that in this context there are various mentions for humans because they have complex natures. But it is also necessary to explore human reality based on the ontological elements of the human being to answer the question of whether humans are formed from one element, two, or even plural. So this study aims to explore ontologically human nature from the view of Svami Vivekananda. This study uses a qualitative method with a philosophical hermeneutic approach. The results of this study indicate that Vivekananda views humans as essentially the same as Brahman, in the sense that humans are existentially different from Brahman but are essentially the same as Brahman. Vivekananda describes the body as the name of a series of changes. This is understandable because the body is always changing and is composed of changing particles. The real man is the soul, not the body. This explanation also seems to be a form of direct rejection of materialism. And man has the divine nature of God.

Abstract

This research aims to examine and develop the values of religious moderation in a plural society through a philosophy of religion approach. Religious moderation is a very important attitude in maintaining harmony and social stability in a diverse society. This is because when religion is only interpreted as a doctrine, it will lead to excessive religious fanaticism. Therefore, believing in religious teachings must be understood with rationality, so that the principles that exist in every religious teaching can provide peace and harmony between human beings. This research uses a qualitative method with a philosophical descriptive approach. The results of this study show that religion actually provides guidance for people in thinking, acting or speaking well, by prioritising ethics and morals and humanitarian principles. However, if religious teachings are understood only as doctrine, it will be vulnerable to religious fanaticism, therefore religion should be understood rationally. Therefore, religious moderation by promoting the values of tolerance, harmony, and peace should be based on rational, critical principles in understanding religious teachings, so it is important to understand the philosophy of religion as a foundation in building religious moderation values.

Abstract

Hedonism is a view that prioritizes the pursuit of happiness and pleasure as the main goal in life. While this concept is appealing to some, it is not without its critics. Hedonism is often criticized as leading to a less meaningful life. If the only goal is to seek pleasure and avoid suffering, then it can neglect the deeper and more meaningful aspects of life, such as devotion to others, and the development of ethics and morality. One criticism of the hedonistic lifestyle comes from the thoughts of Arthur Schopenhauer. Therefore, with a qualitative method and a philosophical hermeneutic approach, the results of this study show that Arthur Schopenhauer views life as a series of sufferings, humans suffer because of their will. The effort in finding happiness in Schopenhauer's view is to control the will. Happiness cannot be measured in terms of physical pleasures such as food, drink, or entertainment and luxury goods. However, true happiness arises from asceticism and the denial of the will. The hedonistic lifestyle for Schopenhauer is a futile behavior, because it actually brings humans to the brink of suffering.

Abstract

This research examines the concept of non-violent pedagogy in the view of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and its relevance for the development of character education. Gandhi viewed non-violent pedagogy as an essential foundation in building individuals who are not only intellectually intelligent, but also have high morality. This concept emphasises the importance of education as a means to strengthen human values, such as honesty, justice and empathy. This research uses a descriptive-analytical approach by analysing Gandhi’s writings and thoughts on education and non-violence. The results of this study show that Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi's thoughts have a deep relevance to the development of character education, especially in the context of moral and spiritual values. One of Gandhi's main contributions is the concept of non-violent pedagogy or ahimsa, which emphasises the rejection of violence in all its forms. Gandhi also taught the concepts of satyagraha, aparigraha, brahmacarya, asteya, and swadesi, a concept that directs individuals to always serve the truth, then become a simple individual and not too pursue luxury, always control themselves, do not take the property of others, and also teach the principle of independence.

Abstract

The phrase rideo ergo sum or I laugh because I exist is a philosophy that has a very deep meaning. This is because only humans are able to laugh or are referred to as homo ridens while animals cannot. Although there are animal sounds that resemble laughter, they are not a form of laughter like in humans. Laughter is not a form of meaningless expression. Many things can be obtained by interpreting humans as homo ridens. This research uses library research method with Miles and Huberman analysis pattern. The results in this study are 1). Laughter is a form of authenticity from humans, humans need humor and laughter as an expression of the happiness they experience, humans are unique because humans are able to laugh (homo ridens) as their characteristic. 2). Laughter has a philosophy, because laughing is a form of freedom of expression, and laughter is a form of reality of human freedom. 3). Various things are obtained by humans as homo ridens, especially in the health, so that laughing yoga is a form of actualization of the homo ridens.
