Abstract

Origami is a form of paper craft with techniques that can applied to other materials, one of which is leather. This study attempts to identify a number of physical characteristics of leather materials in the author's previous work, namely decorative lamp shades in three lamp prototypes. Specifically, the author examines the physical characteristics that arise when leather materials are formed using the folded plate and Yoshimura origami techniques. The application of origami technique to leather has limitations due to conventional leather’s inherent elasticity and material thickness which are unable to produce sharp crease angles. During the making of the prototype, it was found that the fold crease can be made more prominent by cutting lines to the leather surface and applying pressure parallel to the direction of the lines. Cut line on the outside surface of 1,5 mm thick vegetable tanned leather pattern produce the sharpest crease fold that is visually closest to the paper folds. However, scratches on the outside produce visible cuts that are less aesthetic, therefore scratches on the inside surface of the leather are used as an alternative that produces the closest shard fold crease. In addition to emphasizing the fold line, the process of soaking in water can make the folds on the leather last longer and allow for more extreme shapes.

Abstract

This study explores the symbolic meaning of femininity embedded within the visual elements of the book cover "Ada Serigala Betina dalam Diri Setiap Perempuan" (There’s a She-Wolf Inside Every Woman) through a feminist semiotic lens. Utilizing Roland Barthes' theory of semiotics, the research analyzes the cover’s color palette, illustrations, typography, and layout, all of which visually represent the identity, power, and resistance of women from a cultural feminist perspective. The dominant use of pastel purple signifies not just aesthetic softness, but a deeper connection to the Suffragette movement, highlighting resistance and spiritual strength. The illustration of multiple women without facial detail, accompanied by the shadow of a howling she-wolf, reflects the rejection of conventional beauty standards and emphasizes the inner strength and diversity of women’s identities. Bold sans-serif typography reinforces the assertive message of empowerment. The study concludes that the book cover is not merely a promotional medium, but a visual discourse that deconstructs patriarchal norms and amplifies feminist ideology through symbolic and inclusive design. Ultimately, the book cover functions as a communicative artifact that embodies the collective journey and struggle of women within a patriarchal framework.

Abstract

Developing ideas to increase and generate creative economic value focuses on the creativity of business actors in the products they produce. Product creativity can be generated by leveraging local wisdom as a creative idea for products. Local wisdom such as the pincuk mechanism and rice wrappers can be used as ideas in realizing visuals and techniques in making functional products. This study provides comprehensive insight into how the simplicity of pincuk packaging is applied to different functions using the Scamper model approach with brainstorming techniques. This, can understand the creative process and preferences of a designer in creating a leather bag idea by adapting pincukan. This preference enhances traditional values and shifts a broad view into other media to consider strategies to maintain and promote traditional cultural heritage.ABSTRAKPengembangan ide untuk menaikkan dan menghasilkan nilai ekonomi kreatif memusatkan kreatifitas para pelaku usaha terhadap produk yang dihasilkan.
