Abstract

This research aims to enhance the quality of coffee bean roasting in Indonesia by designing an automated control-based roasting machine. The machine serves as a solution to the constraints of traditional roasting processes, particularly prevalent in rural areas. In the context of Indonesia's substantial coffee production, being one of the world's largest producers, the coffee bean roasting machine is anticipated to improve efficiency and consistency in the final product. The research methodology employs a design approach, utilizing tools such as lathes, grinders, and welding machines. Materials include a power window motor, hollow iron, angle iron, and other components. The design process comprises several stages, including the construction of the machine frame, agitator design, and the implementation of an automatic control system. Machine testing results indicate roasting levels within standard parameters for light, medium, and dark roasts. The temperature-time comparison graph illustrates consistent temperature changes throughout the roasting process. In conclusion, the coffee bean roasting machine exhibits significant potential to enhance the quality and efficiency of coffee roasting in Indonesia. By incorporating post-harvest technology, it is expected to contribute significantly to increasing the value of agricultural commodities and the overall economic well-being of communities

Abstract

The paper is to reveal the bacterial cellulose powder as a filler for a composite matrix with an oil palm trunk. The use of oil palm trunks is excellent because of their abundant availability and because they can reduce waste. It is low-density, environmentally friendly, inexpensive, non-toxic, and easily degraded as a matrix that produces hydrogels obtained from cross-linking. This research is a laboratory experiment that makes films by masks using the bacterial cellulose powder obtained through enzyme hydrolysis fillers with the addition of 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5%. Bio-composite films are readily biodegradable, so the films made from extracting oil palm trunks with stem starch are environmentally friendly. The pH value of the five preparations for film gel masks was the shelf life of bio-composite, which could last for 21 days. Characterization of film masks includes physical properties and analysis of chemical composition, where the amount of water in the film will decrease as the size of the polymer that makes up the film matrix increases. The treatment that produced bio-composite films with the best mechanical properties under the addition of bacterial cellulose powder was 3% filler. The cellulose bacterium can be applied as a filler for making composites by modifying the oil palm trunk as a matrix composite.

Abstract

Technological advances have made the manufacturing sector an industry that needs to develop and compete globally, one of which is CNC machines which produce quality products for industrial needs. In producing a material at CNC machine, the latest design software is needed, namely Autodesk Fusion 360. Apart from lest, on then machine processing, it is desired to produce a material surface with a good roughness value. The desired result of this research is to analyze roughness value towards facing turning results on CNC machines for variations in spindle speed, namely 410 rpm, 450 rpm, 660 rpm, 900 rpm, 1100 rpm and 1200 rpm using carbide chisels and dromus coolant. The roughness of the facing surface can be assessed using a Surface Roughness Tester and analyzing the material structure using macro photos. The results of specimen testing showed that the smallest roughness value occurred of a spindle speed of 1200 rpm with a value of Ra = 0.810 µm and the output of observations make use macro photos represent that the roughness structure of the material was very smooth compared to the production process on CNC machines using other spindle speeds.
