Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases suffered by the community. Hypertension is now a major problem for all of us, not only in Indonesia but in the world, because if it is not controlled properly it can be a risk factor for the emergence of complications such as heart, kidney failure, diabetes, stroke, retinopathy, nervous disorders and cerebral disorders. The increase in cases of hypertension can be caused by many factors, one of which is public knowledge that is not limited to hypertension, but what efforts can be made by the community to prevent and lower blood pressure. One of the efforts to increase people's knowledge is through counseling methods so that they are able to adopt a healthy lifestyle to improve their health. The purpose of this article is to obtain an overview of public knowledge about hypertension and to introduce herbal drinks from ginger that can lower blood pressure. The method was carried out with interactive counseling which was carried out at the Children's Poling Village Hall, Ara Condong village Langkat district, Dairi Regency using leaflet media, , and giving ginger drinks. The counseling was carried out smoothly and gave good results, where many people asked questions about their hypertension, how to avoid increasing blood pressure and trying to understand how to make the given ginger drink.

Abstract

Kersen plant (Muntingia calabura L.) is a plant that has many properties and is useful as medicine. Hyperuricemia is a condition where there is an increase in uric acid levels above normal. The leaf part of this plant is widely used by the community as a traditional medicine because of its metabolite compounds. Flavonoid compounds in cherry leaves can reduce uric acid levels through inhibition of the xanthine oxidase enzyme, an enzyme that acts as a catalyst in the oxidation process of hypoxanthine to xanthine and then to uric acid. By inhibiting the work of the xanthine oxidase enzyme, the formation of uric acid will also be inhibited. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of cherry leaf ethanol extract in reducing uric acid levels in male white rats induced by potassium oxonate. This study used an experimental method using 25 male white rats induced by potassium oxonate. The test animals were divided into 5 groups: negative control (CMC Na 1%), positive control (Allopurinol), EEDK dose of 300 mg/kgBB, EEDK dose of 400 mg/kgBB, EEDK dose of 500 mg/kgBB. Measurement of uric acid levels in rats using the point of care testing (POCT) method. All data obtained were analyzed statistically using the One Way Anova test. The results of the analysis showed that there were significant differences between the negative control, positive control, EEDK 300 mg/kg, EEDK 400 mg/kg, and EEDK 500 mg/kg (P<0.05). The most effective dose of cherry leaf ethanol extract as an antihyperuricemia is the EEDK dose of 500 mg/kg BW. There was no significant difference between EEDK 400 mg/kgBW, EEDK 500 mg/kgBW and positive control (P>0.05). Based on the results of the analysis that has been done, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of cherry leaves has an antihyperuricemia effect in rats. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak etanol daun pepaya (EEDP) terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah pada tikus putih jantan (Rattus norvegicus) yang diinduksi aloksan, menentukan dosis yang paling efektif, dan membandingkannya dengan glibenklamid. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan rancangan post-test only control group design. Sampel daun pepaya dikumpulkan secara purposive dari Kabupaten Batu Bara, diolah menjadi obat sederhana, dan diekstraksi menggunakan metode maserasi dengan etanol 96%. Skrining fitokimia menunjukkan bahwa EEDP mengandung flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, tanin, dan steroid/triterpenoid. Hewan uji dibagi menjadi lima kelompok: kontrol negatif (CMC Na 0,5%), kontrol positif (glibenklamid 0,45 mg/kgBB), dan tiga kelompok perlakuan dosis EEDP 100, 200, dan 400 mg/kgBB. Induksi diabetes dilakukan dengan menggunakan aloksan monohidrat. Kadar glukosa darah diukur menggunakan glukometer sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian EEDP pada ketiga dosis mampu menurunkan kadar glukosa darah secara signifikan dibandingkan dengan kontrol negatif. Dosis 400 mg/kgBB memberikan penurunan paling besar dan mendekati efektivitas glibenklamid. Uji statistik tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelompok EEDP pada dosis 400 mg/kgBB dan glibenklamid (p>0,05), yang mengindikasikan bahwa efek antidiabetik EEDP sebanding dengan obat konvensional. Mekanisme penurunan glukosa darah diduga terkait dengan kemampuan flavonoid untuk meningkatkan sensitivitas insulin, melindungi sel β pankreas, dan menghambat enzim α-glukosidase. Sebagai kesimpulan, EEDP berpotensi sebagai agen antidiabetik alami, dengan dosis optimal 400 mg/kgBB, yang efektivitasnya sebanding dengan glibenklamid. Temuan ini mendukung penggunaan daun pepaya sebagai obat tradisional yang aman, terjangkau, dan mudah didapat, serta membuka peluang untuk penelitian lebih lanjut dalam pengembangan fitofarmaka antidiabetik.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a serious health problem in Indonesia, which ranks fifth in the world for the highest number of diabetics. The high prevalence, along with the side effects and cost of pharmacological treatments, encourages the need for supportive alternatives. This community service aims to increase the understanding and awareness of the Mekar Sari Village community regarding the prevention and management of diabetes mellitus through the utilization of torch ginger flower (Etlingera elatior) as an herbal tea. Torch ginger flower contains bioactive compounds such as flavonoids and polyphenols that have anti-hyperglycemic potential by inhibiting α-glucosidase and α-amylase enzymes. This activity will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Mekar Sari Village Office in Deli Tua. The methods used include health education, training on how to make the herbal tea, a question-and-answer session, and health screening. Through this activity, it is expected that the community can independently utilize torch ginger flower as a supportive therapy that is easy to process, affordable, and holistic to control diabetes mellitus and improve their quality of health.
