Abstract

This article investigates whether Filipinos genuinely have negative feelings about President Duterte’s leadership. It examines public opinions through surveys, media discussions, and actions in socio-political groups. Using a descriptive research approach, this article aims to understand diverse perspectives on Duterte’s leadership in the Philippines. It delves into why some people support him and others criticize him, considering factors like economic policies, leadership style, and responses to significant events during his presidency. This article seeks to uncover the various reasons that influence people’s opinions in a changing political and social landscape in the Philippines. It recognizes that different factors shape Filipinos’ beliefs about their leader. Finally, it offers insightful perspectives into the complex sentiments surrounding Duterte’s leadership, providing a clearer understanding of what Filipinos truly think about their president.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether Filipinos genuinely hold negative feelings towards President Duterte’s leadership. It analyzes public opinions through existing surveys, media discussions, and socio-political group actions. Using a descriptive research approach, the study seeks to understand the diverse perspectives on Duterte’s leadership in the Philippines. It explores the reasons behind both support and criticism, taking into account factors such as economic policies, leadership style, and responses to significant events during his presidency. By uncovering the various influences on people’s opinions in a changing political and social landscape, the research aims to provide valuable insights into the complex sentiments surrounding Duterte’s leadership. Despite facing widespread criticism for his authoritarian leadership style, war on drugs, and attacks on the media, President Rodrigo Duterte maintained high levels of public support throughout his presidency. The study concludes that Duterte’s leadership has both strengths and weaknesses, with high approval ratings attributed to his perceived strength, populist messaging, and effective communication. While not universally trusted, Duterte’s ability to connect with a significant portion of the population suggests a willingness among Filipinos to support leaders who promise to address their concerns, even in the face of authoritarian measures. Overall, this research contributes valuable insights into the intricate tapestry of sentiments surrounding Duterte’s leadership, shedding light on the diverse perspectives that define the Filipino public’s stance on their president.

Abstract

This paper explores the integration of the Capability Approach into Outcome-Based Education (OBE) to enhance the quality and inclusivity of educational practices. While OBE has gained acceptance for its structured approach, critics raise concerns about its potential limitations in fostering holistic development. The Capability Approach, rooted in the work of Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum, offers an alternative perspective, emphasizing human capabilities and freedoms. The paper advocates for a broader view of education, asserting that it should empower learners with skills beyond predefined outcomes. It discusses the theoretical foundations of both approaches, their key principles, and the potential synergies between them. The study employs a comprehensive qualitative methodology, analyzing various sources to enrich the understanding of the research topic. Criticisms of OBE include a perceived narrowing of the curriculum and concerns about its impact on individual excellence. Case studies from different countries highlight challenges and varying outcomes in OBE implementation. The integration of the Capability Approach into OBE is proposed as a transformative avenue, emphasizing the cultivation of capabilities alongside traditional knowledge. Practical implications are outlined, including designing comprehensive learning outcomes, adapting curriculum and pedagogy, and employing diverse assessment methods. The integrated approach is seen as a means to empower learners for personal and societal flourishing, fostering inclusivity and equity in education. The paper concludes that this integration signifies a paradigm shift, redefining education as a transformative force for individual and societal progress.

Abstract

In the modern capitalist society, the balance between promoting the well-being of the majority and respecting individual rights raises significant moral dilemmas. This paper explores two frameworks of morality: the maximization of utility and the categorical imperative. While the maximization of utility focuses on maximizing overall happiness and well-being, it may require sacrificing the well-being of a few individuals for the greater good. On the other hand, the categorical imperative emphasizes universal moral principles and the inherent dignity of individuals, prioritizing individual rights and justice. In the context of a capitalist society, the paper argues that the categorical imperative holds a more promising approach to well-being. It emphasizes the importance of respecting and protecting the inherent rights and dignity of individuals, ensuring fairness and equality. While capitalism can provide opportunities for economic growth and individual freedoms, it requires ethical considerations and regulations to ensure that it operates within a framework that upholds human rights. The tension between these frameworks challenges our perspectives on morality and highlights the complex ethical dilemmas that arise in a capitalist society. Ultimately, finding a balance between promoting well-being and respecting individual rights is crucial for creating a just and inclusive society within the capitalist framework.
