Abstract

In Bangladesh, it is common for working women to experience increased concerns about the safety and well-being of their children after childbirth. This study aims to examine the impact of childcare facilities on the occupational productivity of employed women in Bangladesh, specifically within Dhaka City. A quantitative research approach was utilized, with statistical analyses including frequency distribution, descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, and a chi-square test. The results of the chi-square test (p<0.05) demonstrated a significant relationship between the availability of childcare center facilities and the job performance of working mothers. The study found that most participants believed that reliable childcare facilities positively influenced their work-life balance. These findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, highlighting the need for more reliable childcare facilities in Dhaka City to enhance the active participation of working mothers in the workforce and their ability to deliver high-quality performance. While the past decade has seen considerable research on women's empowerment and increasing female representation in the labor market, this study is the first to specifically address the impact of childcare center facilities on the workplace performance of working mothers.

Abstract

Green criminology is a multidisciplinary field that seeks to explain the relationship between crime and geography. Bangladeshi criminologists and crime preventionists are increasingly conscious of crime-location relationships. This study aims to explore with a new eye the lifestyle of the people of haor areas to find out the root causes of crimes and the challenges of policing in haors areas as well. This study is conducted based on the qualitative approach. The study employed an in-depth interview strategy and focus group discussions (FGDs) to gather information. The findings of the study reveal that the main causes for crime in hoar areas include economic insolvency, lack of education, detached communication system, lack of steady employment, lack of adequate land survey, and pedigree contention within families. The result also shows that the police of hoar areas face difficulties in performing their duties due to poor communication, lack of manpower, political influence, inadequate logistics, and modern weapons. It is essential to study this topic to identify the relationship between geography and crime, which will help to control the crime rate in hoar areas through an effective and modern policing system.

Abstract

The Universal Pension Scheme (UPS) is a fairly new policy by the Bangladesh government, inaugurated on 17th August 2023, aiming at giving the nation's aging population a monthly stipend and placing them under a well-organized social safety net program. This study aimed to find out the perception of the people regarding the UPS and the challenges that beset with this perception. The study uses a quantitative method to collect data from 404 participants through a close ended questionnaire following simple random sampling. The SPSS software was used to analyze the data for chi-square testing, cross tabulation, and descriptive statistics. By conducting the Chi-square test (p0.05), the overall results of the study revealed that the general people are not much willing to participate in the Universal Pension Scheme despite knowing about it. Though many still do not properly understand the different schemes of the UPS and prefer the traditional and familiar banking procedure for saving money, many mainly refrain from agreeing to participate on it because of the risk of inflation and regime change. Thus, most people prefer investing in a business to make profit and be free from these risks that are associated with UPS.
