Abstract

This study investigated challenges impeding parental involvement in implementing the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Tanga, Tanzania. Purposive sampling used to recruit six participants in interviews which were conducted in Kiswahili language. The obtained data were translated to English language and were analyzed by using thematic analysis. It was found that, despite of, recent improvements in PI, there have been persistent factors contribute to ineffective PI. The challenges includes; limited parental awareness, conflicting work schedules, economic constraints, perceived incompetence, and negligence. To enhance parental involvement, the study recommends that, with fee-free education initiatives, the government should consider both curricular and extracurricular programs which are the key to effective PI in CBC implementation. Beside, parents and school should consider the presence of dual responsibilities of parents in curriculum implementation.

This report used ‎documentary analysis to consult articles, dissertations, and books found in different electronic ‎journals such as ERIC and Science Direct and deem them to have suitable information for the ‎study. The report found that evaluation methods such as test, assignments, homework, and ‎projects are common in both countries. Moreover, some dissimilar is some form of assessment ‎including terminal test and monthly test which are common in Tanzania. Furthermore, bustling ‎classes, heavy teaching loads, and a lack of clarity on the formative assessment implementation ‎strategies have similarly contributed to the ineffective formative assessment in both countries. ‎Further, the researcher recommends the recruitment of mathematics teachers and the provision of ‎in-service and pre-service training to the teachers to reduce ineffectiveness in the implementation ‎of formative assessment in Chinese and Tanzanian primary schools.‎

Abstract

Motivation is among the leading predictors of second language learning. This study investigated the influence of motivation on second language (English) acquisition in primary school students. The study used a qualitative research approach, with case study design as the strategy. The researcher employed purposive sampling to conduct interviews with three primary school English language teachers. Besides, documentary reviews were used to collect suitable data for the study. The findings indicated that motivation is a paramount factor for Second language acquisition (SLA), however, cultivation of motivation to primary school students is a hindrance to most teachers as capacity to use varied experience, student’s efforts, and the learning environment obscuring cultivation of effective motivation. In conclusion, for effective SLA, teachers should develop their skills at fostering motivation to SL learners.
