Abstract

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia holds significant implications for global energy stability, particularly impacting the Southeast Asia region. This conflict has led to a rise in global oil prices, which indirectly affects Southeast Asia. This paper aims to elucidate and analyze how the Ukraine-Russia conflict influences energy stability in Southeast Asian countries. Utilizing a qualitative methodology, this research adopts a descriptive-analytic approach, thereby allowing for a detailed exploration of the conflict's impact on the region's energy stability. Findings reveal that the European Union's longstanding dependence on Russian gas deeply entwines with ASEAN's efforts to leverage energy trade to sustain economic stability, subsequently influencing various derivative sectors. The conflict has undeniably affected the energy supply and demand dynamics, necessitating a shift towards more transparent policies on alternative energy sources. Despite not experiencing direct disruptions in the supply chain or immediate spikes in energy costs, the ripple effects of the conflict have led to an inevitable rise in fuel prices within ASEAN, thus affecting the economic and political landscapes of Southeast Asia.

Abstract

The geopolitical ascendancy of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) within the South Pacific Region has been extensively scrutinized due to its potential to both align with global development agendas and provoke sovereignty concerns among recipient nations. It is hypothesized that the BRI could either exacerbate debt dependencies or foster economic emancipation depending on the governance responses of the recipient countries. Therefore, this study seeks to analyze the strategic deployments and the consequential geopolitical ramifications of the BRI, particularly focusing on South Pacific nations. A qualitative method, utilizing literature reviews and analyses of secondary data sources, was systematically employed to extract and synthesize relevant insights. Empirical evidence from multiple South Pacific case studies reveals that these nations have the capacity to harness the initiative for economic enhancement without necessarily succumbing to compromised sovereignty. These findings illuminate the dual potential of the BRI to either ensnare recipient nations in dependency cycles or empower them through strategic economic engagement, contingent upon the negotiation dynamics and governance acumen of the recipient countries.

Abstract

One of the main problems is the non-involvement and neglect of communities in the new capital planning and development process. The research method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive analysis technique. This approach was chosen because it allows researchers to understand in depth the impact and risks of moving the country’s capital on the Indonesian economy. In this case, policy alignment between the central government, regional government and other related actors is crucial to ensure the success of the development of the new capital city and the welfare of the people living around it. At the same time, it should also be noted that the development of the nation's capital can have negative impacts. By carefully evaluating policies, we can find out whether the development of the nation’s capital will have a positive impact or even cause problems for the surrounding community. it is also necessary to pay attention to community participation and involvement in the development process of the nation's capital so that their interests and needs can be properly accommodated.

Abstract

Since the Yemen conflict in 2015, the food crisis and water scarcity in Yemen have been getting worse and increasing the number of victims who died due to hunger and malnutrition. Therefore, Yemen food insecurity also ultimately has an impact on politics, the economy, and various other aspects. Thus, the international community tried to prevent worse situations through international cooperation. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) carried out this cooperation with the commitment of its member countries to solve this issue. Therefore, that is the beginning of this research which discusses FAO's efforts in dealing with the food crisis in Yemen. This paper uses the theory of neoliberal institutionalism with qualitative research methods to get a full illustration of FAO's activities through a literature review. Finally, this paper finds out that FAO has contributed and played an important role in dealing with the Yemen food crisis through program that have been designed and implemented.
