Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of an English analytical exposition text written by Indonesian students on "The Dangers of Smoking." By evaluating the text using three key criteria – Sociolinguistics, Syntax, and Vocabulary – the researchers aim to explore the students' ability to utilize language in social contexts, their understanding of sentence structure, and their proficiency in using suitable words to convey their arguments effectively. Through a qualitative approach, the researchers conducted a meticulous assessment of the text, revealing the students' adeptness in incorporating societal implications, utilizing logical sequencing, and employing persuasive language. The findings of this study offer valuable insights into students' written capabilities and provide guidance for future pedagogical interventions in fostering linguistic development among learners.

Abstract

Morphemes, being the most fundamental meaningful grammatical entities within a language, play a significant role in enhancing the intricacy and depth of linguistic communication. Consequently, the analysis of morphemes serves as an indispensable instrument employed by linguists to deconstruct and comprehend these expressions, thereby offering valuable insights into the underlying structure, semantics, and cultural subtleties inherent in our communicative endeavors. The analysis of morphemes holds significance as it facilitates comprehension of the organization and semantics of words. Through the process of deconstructing words into their fundamental semantic components, one can acquire knowledge on the formation of words, their potential for modification, and their role in conveying meaning within sentences. The aforementioned analysis has the potential to enhance our linguistic abilities, understanding, and interpersonal exchange. The analysis of morphemes in a hotel's greeting card can yield vital insights into the linguistic nuances utilized to extend a warm welcome to guests, establish a favorable impression, and successfully convey crucial information. This research is going to find out the types of morpheme analysis , more specifically in the Hotel’s Greeting Card in Surabaya. The study utilizes a descriptive qualitative methodology. The research activities involve several distinct stages, including data collection, data analysis, and the subsequent conclusion, which is generated from the process of analyzing the data. Based on the findings, it was found out that there were 4 types of morpheme analysis, they were free root, bound root, free non root, and bound non root.

Abstract

Penggunaan media sosial dalam pendidikan telah menjadi topik yang semakin relevan dan penting dalam era digital saat ini. Artikel ini membahas bagaimana media sosial digunakan sebagai sarana pembelajaran yang inovatif dan efektif, serta sebagai platform untuk berbagi pengetahuan di lingkungan pendidikan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di SMP 1 Negeri Palangka Raya dengan tujuan memberikan informasi kepada siswa-siswi kelas 7 tentang manfaat penggunaan media sosial dalam pendidikan. Metode kegiatan yang digunakan adalah survei, wawancara, dan observasi untuk memperoleh pemahaman komprehensif tentang penggunaan media sosial dalam pendidikan. Kegiatan pengabdian dilaksanakan pada tanggal 8 Mei 2024, dengan siswa-siswi aktif berpartisipasi dalam sesi pemberian materi. Meskipun terdapat beberapa siswa-siswi yang kurang fokus, sebagian besar dari mereka tetap berpartisipasi dengan baik. Hasil dan pembahasan dari kegiatan tersebut menunjukkan bahwa integrasi media sosial dalam proses pembelajaran dapat menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang lebih menarik dan partisipatif bagi siswa. Kesimpulannya, kegiatan pengabdian ini memberikan gambaran yang komprehensif tentang penggunaan media sosial dalam pendidikan, memberikan wawasan berharga bagi pengembangan pendidikan adaptif dan inovatif di era digital.

Abstract

This study's goal is to find out the different result of the students who taught using podcast and conventional in teaching listening. Listening is when someone pays attention to what a speaker is saying and tries to understand and make sense of what the speaker is saying. Since there are still many students think that listening is very hard to them, so the teacher should also be focused on how to create an environment that is conducive, fun, exciting, and fascinating to learn in order to improve learning outcomes for their students. One attempt is to incorporate media into the educational process, the media that could be used in teaching listening is by using podcast. A podcast is an online audio file that may be downloaded onto a personal computer or mobile device. Podcasts are often presented as part of a series, and listeners can sign up to get new episodes of the series automatically when they are released. The researcher used a quantitative method for this work. The study was quasi-experimental: Pre- and post-test, non-randomized control group. The samples are the students from XI IPS 1 dan XI IPS 2, which consist of 70 students. In this study, the research tool was used a test. The test here was multiple choice with 15 items of question. Based on the findings, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) which said there is a difference results between classes taught using podcast and classes taught using conventional to develop students’ listening skill at the eleventh grade of MAN Kota Palangka Raya was accepted. The null hypothesis (H0), which stated that there is no difference results between classes taught using podcast and classes taught using conventional to develop students’ listening skill at the eleventh grade of MAN Kota Palangka Raya was rejected. It indicates that the implementation of podcast as a media is more effective in listening activities than conventional style of teaching.
