Abstract

Implementing an effective pedagogy that can enhance students' critical thinking, reasoning abilities, decision-making skills, and problem-solving capabilities is a key educational objective in the 21st century. This necessitates a shift from rote learning to interactive and meaningful learning experiences. Hikmah pedagogy, derived from Philosophy for Children (P4C), is an innovative approach that equips students with the essential skills for thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and caring, all while incorporating Islamic values through the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework. Hikmah pedagogy adopts an infusion approach, fostering curiosity and promoting qualities such as critical thinking, open-mindedness, tolerance, and respect for others when exploring diverse perspectives. Research has demonstrated that the implementation of Hikmah pedagogy positively impacts teaching and learning across various subjects and educational levels. Hence, this review aims to assess the effects of Hikmah pedagogy on teaching and learning, as well as the challenges associated with its implementation. A total of 18 peer-reviewed articles were purposefully selected and analyzed using systematic content analysis (SLR). The findings indicate that Hikmah pedagogy enhances students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTs), critical thinking and reasoning abilities, open-mindedness, and communication skills. Additionally, the review highlights the importance of interactive stimuli, inquiry-based classroom management, and student engagement within the community of inquiry. Based on this evidence, educators are encouraged to incorporate Hikmah pedagogy as an effective teaching tool to cultivate students' thinking skills and moral development.

Abstract

The science of inheritance is one of the branches of jurisprudence of Islamic education, which means the distribution of inheritance to the heirs after death. Many methods for teaching inheritance topics of Islamic education were suggested and vividly elaborated by different scholars. Like any other subjects, and for the importance and difficulty of the subject (science of inheritance) amongst Islamic education subjects, there is still needed to bring more specific method to help achieve its topics effectively. This is what present study focused to elaborate. The qualitative method of philosophical analysis is employed for the purpose of this study. From the findings, relevance of using problem solving method in teaching inheritance topics of Islamic education was intensely highlighted. Therefore, Islamic education teachers are recommended to make the method completely utilised in teaching the subject, and a good strategy should be carefully chosen to help achieve a good provision of the method.

Abstract

The prevalence of different ideologies and conflicts worldwide underscores the importance of critically exploring the role of education in fostering peace and harmony. Islamic education, grounded in principles derived from Islamic teachings, is significant in cultivating values essential for nurturing a mindset conducive to peace. It is essential to recognise that Islamic education is inclusive, respectful, and values individuals regardless of their religion, ethnicity, or cultural background. Therefore, this paper aims to examine the role of Islamic education in fostering peace and harmony and develop a framework for peacebuilding from the perspective of Islamic education. The study employs a qualitative content analysis design by systematically reviewing relevant literature on Islamic education to investigate its role in promoting global peace and harmony. The findings indicate a comprehensive role of Islamic education, grounded in four main factors: knowledge acquisition, establishing principles of peace, teaching values of peace, and encouraging interfaith dialogue. In addition, the findings also show that rote learning (memorisation) and misconceptions of jihad are potential challenges to Islamic education. Therefore, institutions should incorporate comprehensive peace education into the curriculum, encompassing peace principles and values, Prophetic peace strategies, and other interdisciplinary studies such as conflict resolution skills and international relations. This study recommends that educational policymakers develop and support interfaith initiatives to foster dialogue, understanding, and cooperation between religious communities.
