Abstract

Modern shopping centers now not only function as places to buy products or services but also as recreational and entertainment venues that can encourage consumerist behavior in society. Unlike traditional markets, which focus solely on transactions without considering visitor comfort, modern shopping centers offer a more comprehensive and appealing experience for consumers. In the city of Rantauprapat, rapid economic growth and increased household income have triggered a more consumer-driven lifestyle, especially in spending time at shopping centers for shopping or entertainment. One of the shopping centers currently developing in Rantauprapat is Mega Mas Plaza Bangunan, which focuses on selling building materials. This research aims to evaluate the impact of shopping centers on the consumption patterns of Rantauprapat's society and how modern shopping centers can improve visitor comfort and security compared to traditional markets.
