Abstract

Diagnosing students' conceptions is extremely valuable for assessing their level of understanding and preventing misconceptions. The four-tier test is a diagnostic instrument specifically designed to identify students' misconceptions, assess their grasp of concepts, and uncover confidence levels in their answers. Misconceptions refer to concepts that students comprehend but do not align with scientific understanding, Reproduction in plants is one of the subjects that can reveal misconceptions. yet students remain confident in their comprehension. Reproduction in plants is one of the subjects that can reveal misconceptions. To diagnose students' conceptions of plant reproduction, a set of four-tier multiple-choice questions was distributed to 101 9th-grade students who had previously studied the topic. Students' conceptions were classified into categories: scientific knowledge, false positives, false negatives, misconceptions, and lack of knowledge. Data analysis was conducted using MS Excel to calculate percentages and frequencies. The results demonstrate that students had a higher percentage of correct understanding compared to misconceptions. However, one particular subtopic, fertilization in plants and seed dispersal, exhibited the highest occurrence of misconceptions. This can be attributed to the students' overall strong scientific knowledge in these schools. To address identified misconceptions, teachers should establish connections between the material and real-life situations, engage students in projects and discussions, and openly discuss misconceptions. Additionally, introducing Latin terminology related to the subject matter can help familiarize students with the language used in the material. By implementing these strategies, teachers can effectively address misconceptions, promote a deeper understanding of plant reproduction, and provide meaningful learning experiences for students.

Abstract

Various skills that must be mastered by students to be able to prepare themselves to match the human resources of developed countries are today's challenges. One of these skills is critical thinking. The application of the STEM approach is a new era to meet the learning objectives in the 21st century. And by applying the HOTS-based STEM approach will improve students' critical thinking skills. The research in this article uses the meta-analysis method by finding the effect size calculation value of each journal analyzed. Thus, it is found that the learning model that has a major effect on the application of the HOTS-based STEM approach is the experimental learning model, with the material of Electricity and Magnetism and with the help of simulation media at the XII grade high school level.Keywords: STEM Approach, HOTS, Critical Thinking

Abstract

Pemanfaatan media pembelajaran merupakan bagian penting dari perencanaan pembelajaran di kelas. Media pembelajaran yang mengikuti perkembangan teknologi diharapkan dapat mengatasi kebosanan siswa dalam proses pembelajaran, khususnya dalam mata pelajaran fisika. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat kelayakan, respon siswa terkait kepraktisan, serta keefektifan bahan ajar berbasis video Powtoon. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ialah R&D (Research and Development) Borg and Gall Validasi oleh ahli media mendapat nilai 82%, dimana dikategorikan sebagai sangat layak, sementara validitas oleh ahli materi mencapai 97%, yang mengindikasikan kategori sangat layak. Hasil dari penilaian guru tentang bahan ajar berbasis Powtoon sebesar 81% termasuk kriteria praktis. Hasil respon siswa dari uji coba lingkup kecil terkait bahan ajar 82% dalam kriteria sangat praktis, uji coba skala besar mendapatkan nilai sebesar 81%, dan hasil uji coba lapangan menunjukkan nilai sebesar 81%, dengan kriteria praktis. Hasil dari tingkat keefektivitasan diukur dari skor pre-test sebelum menggunakan bahan ajar berbasis video Powtoon dan post-test sesudah menggunakannya. Hasil yang diperoleh hasil belajar siswa meningkat setelah menggunakan bahan ajar berbasis Powtoon.
