Abstract

This objective of thi sresearch is to map the development of  Siti Nurbaya story within its first hundred years. The data is taken from the adaptations of Siti Nurbaya novel into various forms resulting in intriguing discussions from the Nurbaya Musical Series and song lyrics about Siti Nurbaya. Changes from the novel to adaptation forms involve additions, reductions, and adjustments, which are then discussed. This study reveals: (1) the development of Nurbaya's character from the novel to adaptation forms, impacting the storyline and sociological aspects within these adaptations. (2) The addition of new characters, such as Etek Rahma, Nurbaya's conservative aunt, influences various events and plots within the adaptations. (3) Changes in perspective also create new viewpoints, for example, the followers of Datuk Meringgih who in the novel accept menial jobs for instant pleasure, whereas in adaptations, their motivation shifts to supporting their families. (4)Adjustments from the novel to adaptation forms are made to accommodate contemporary times and shorten the consumption time of literary works, thereby modifying conflicts to be more relevant to current contexts.

Abstract

In a society that is still thick with a patriarchal culture, gender is often a social construct that influences the views and treatment of individuals, this creates double standards, women and men are often treated differently in various aspects of life. This study uses Norman Fairclough's critical analysis theory to identify existing social irregularities. Re-reading of gender equality is also needed for this research in order to find out whether the desired equality has been achieved or creates new problems using Jacques Derrida's deconstruction theory. The comment 'Try the gender is reversed,' on social media Twitter, is analyzed so as to provide a deeper understanding of how language is used in a wider social context, that actually existing social irregularities are influenced by patriarchal culture which is still enduring in society so that creates a double standard, in this context it is men who are disadvantaged. The expected deconstruction of gender equality has not been achieved because this comment is only an irony over the contradictions that have occurred.

Abstract

One of the reasons why John G. Cawelti's formula appears is because many popular literary stories have the same formula. This study aims to describe and analyze the structure of Cawelti's adventure formula that builds the fairy tale of the Dream Tree story and classifies the character education values contained in the fairy tale of the Dream Tree by Watiek Ideo. The research analysis used descriptive qualitative, read carefully and recorded the reading data from the fairy tale The Dream Tree by Watiek Ideo as the object of research. The data that has been found is then analyzed and classified based on each group. The results of this study can be seen that the fairy tale The Dream Tree fulfills the three elements of Cawelti's adventure formula. It is known that the fairy tale formula is similar to The Lord Of The Rings. The adventure plot formula is: (1) The events behind the hero's journey; (2) the journey undertaken by the hero through the many obstacles faced in completing the mission; (3) the hero encounters a hero on the way; (4) hero successfully completes the journey, and faces the antagonist; (5) hero has a new problem; (6) the hero's victory for his efforts in completing the mission. Meanwhile, the values of character education contained in the fairy tales of the Dream Tree, include strong determination, loving and respecting parents, fighting fear, and cooperation.
