Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to explore the relevance of Al-Farabi's concept of emanation and Nur Muhammad's concept in the creation of the universe to modern science, enriching our understanding of the origins and structure of the universe within the context of contemporary scientific knowledge such as cosmological physics and creation theories. This research employs a literature review method, gathering data and information from previous studies as well as from the Qur'an and its translations. The findings indicate that despite originating from different traditions, both Al-Farabi's ideas on emanation and Nur Muhammad's concept within the Islamic mystical tradition emphasize the notion that everything in the universe stems from a single source and is governed by interconnected principles.

Abstract

Textualization and contextualization of Islamic teachings in the Quran and Hadith refer to two important approaches in understanding and applying Islamic teachings in the context of the times and human life. This textualization refers to understanding the holy texts, such as the Quran and Hadith, thoroughly and in depth. This process involves analyzing the linguistic, historical, and socio-cultural contexts in which the texts were revealed. For example, understanding the meaning of the Arabic words used in the Quran and identifying the historical context behind the revelations. Contextualization This includes connecting the teachings contained in the holy texts with contemporary realities and everyday life. This process is important to bridge the gap between timeless teachings and the challenges and changes of the times. An example is applying Islamic moral and ethical principles in the context of modern life, such as technological issues, globalization, and social issues. In practice, textualization and contextualization enable Muslims to better understand religious teachings, maintain the relevance of these teachings in various situations, and avoid erroneous or inappropriate interpretations. This also helps maintain continuity between religious traditions and developments in the era, so that Islamic values can provide meaningful guidance for humanity in various eras.

Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively examine the concept of the soul in Islamic thought through comparative, critical, and analytical approaches. The research focuses on four main objectives: (1) to explain the fundamental concept of the soul based on primary Islamic sources (the Qur’an and Hadith), (2) to compare the perspectives of prominent Islamic thinkers such as Ibn Sina, al-Ghazali, and Ibn ‘Arabi, (3) to analyze the differences between Islamic and Western approaches to understanding the soul, and (4) to offer a critique and propose a reconstruction of the concept of the soul relevant to contemporary contexts. This research employs a qualitative-descriptive method with a library research approach and content analysis techniques of classical and modern works. The findings reveal that the Islamic concept of the soul encompasses integrated spiritual, moral, and psychological dimensions, in contrast to the Western approach, which tends to be secular and materialistic. Furthermore, there are methodological differences among the philosophical, Sufi, and theological approaches in Islam, each offering a unique contribution to the understanding of the soul. The study concludes that reconstructing the Islamic concept of the soul requires integrating classical intellectual traditions with modern-day needs, particularly in addressing spiritual crises and mental health issues. Thus, the Islamic perspective on the soul offers a holistic alternative for character development and spiritual formation in human life.
