Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted all aspects of our life. It forced us to adopt to a new normal situation and take innovative measures in tackling the pandemic in order to survive. Health experts developed vaccines to reduce human death and helped people recover from the virus infection. The development of the vaccines has made a great contribution to global health. Indonesia itself used seven vaccine variants, which have been approved by the government for nationwide use. Among them are sinovac and sinopharm vaccines, which were made by China. China has helped Indonesia in many ways, in the provision of vaccines, and the bilateral relations between Indonesia and China continued to increase. This article shows that the provision of Covid-19 vaccines contributed to the strong relations between Indonesia and China, and this was channelled through what was called vaccine diplomacy. In this article, the author will be using the global politics theory to analyze the issue. Through this article, scholars can identify the challenges and benefits of the cooperation. Abstract

When President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo first came into power in 2014, he introduced his vision and commitment of transforming Indonesia into a global maritime fulcrum (GMF), highlighting the notion as his first grand strategy of his administration’s foreign policy. President Jokowi promoted the concept in multiple international meetings abroad, in which his foreign minister, Retno Marsudi, echoed the same ideas to various international dignitaries. President Jokowi’s administration even took it further by codifying the vision in 2017 through a Presidential Regulation on National Sea Policy. However, when President Jokowi took oath for a second term in 2019, it seems there have been less enthusiasm from himself and his newly sworn in administration regarding the grand strategy. This is shown with even the words surrounding the grand strategy have not been mentioned by the president or his ministers. Even though President Jokowi and his administration have not been blatant regarding the global maritime vision, the concept is still very much relevant and viable for such a vast archipelagic nation like Indonesia. The first term of Jokowi’s presidency has shown efforts of implementation of the GMF concept, but various limitations in economic, security, and foreign policy aspects have halted the progress. Maritime diplomacy is still a very important concern that President Jokowi must push before leaving office and will be an important legacy for his successor to build upon in the next administration. Despite that economic transformation and recovery have been the priority of President Jokowi’s second term administration, it withholds the potential of Indonesia if a wider spectrum of maritime strategy is not brought forward. Indonesia holds the capacity to become a global maritime power and it is unjust to the nation if the country does not hold the steering wheel of maritime influence in the region. The GMF may have not been the strongest starting point, but neither should the concept be dismissed completely. It could always be built on with a more comprehensive and systematic strategy in order to reach the same means. Though the current state of the GMF lies more on the side of rhetoric, the materialization of the idea should not be a halted relay at the current administration. Bridging the progress of the GMF with the prospects that it holds in the future should be brought upon in the transition of power when Indonesia elects its next president in 2024. Abstract

Every country has an equal right to conduct space exploration, both in the development of science and technology and in the utilization of space resources for the survival needs on Earth. Space is the most challenging region to reach as it requires significant time and costs for exploration. This research aims to assist in the regulation of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty regarding the United States’ efforts to explore and privatize planets and moons. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method based on applicable international laws and treaty articles. The findings indicate that the United States has launched policies supporting the development of private space industries, yet there are legal considerations to be addressed, including the Outer Space Treaty, applicable in the context of privatizing planets and moons. The efforts made by the United States in privatizing planets and moons, in line with the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, raise various legal, ethical, and policy questions. The treaty defines international laws governing the use of outer space, including planets and moons.

Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of gamelan classes as an instrument of Indonesian cultural diplomacy in South Korea during 2021–2025. Aker the Covid-19 pandemic, relations between Indonesia and South Korea strengthened, particularly through cultural and educational exchanges. The Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, in collaboration with the Seoul Institute of the Arts (SIA), revived gamelan classes as a medium of direct cultural engagement. Using a descriptive qualitative method, this research draws data from news articles, KBRI Seoul social media posts, and academic literature. Content analysis was employed to examine narratives, cultural representations, and communication strategies reflected in the program. The findings show that gamelan classes operate as an effective form of sok power, aligning with Nye’s concept of attraction and the cultural diplomacy frameworks of Melissen, Lenczowski, Patjinska, and Simon Mark. Beyond introducing traditional Indonesian music, the program promotes Indonesia’s image through values of harmony, collaboration, and cultural identity. Overall, this research highlights the relevance of participatory, learning-based cultural diplomacy in fostering closer relations between South Korean society and Indonesia and supporting long-term cooperation.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines the practice of multilateral diplomacy within the framework of collaboration between Indonesia and the European Union through the medium of the “Semesta” documentary film. Multitrack diplomacy is positioned as an approach that involves various actors, ranging from states and international organizations to local communities and creative individuals, in building cross-cultural communication and interests. The “Semesta” documentary film case study shows that environmental issues, particularly climate change and local wisdom in natural resource management can serve as a bridge for diplomacy that transcends formal political and economic channels. Through a qualitative analysis of the multitrack diplomacy strategy in Indonesia and European Union collaboration, the study emphasizes the role of film as an instrument of cultural diplomacy that helps strengthen Indonesia's image as a country committed to sustainability. The results of the study show that multitrack diplomacy not only expands the space for interaction between actors but also opens up opportunities for creative collaboration that can represent universal values such as sustainability, solidarity, and global responsibility. Thus, the “Semesta” documentary film is a concrete manifestation of the multitrack diplomacy strategy in strengthening Indonesia-European Union relations through cultural and environmental narratives.
