This research aims to explore the evolution of modes of religious expression in films and understand how urban Muslim communities are represented through religious modes in cinematic works. This research involves the analysis of film as a form of cultural and religious representation, particularly in Muslim urban environments. Through an examination of films representing various time periods, this research will trace the development of religious fashion in Muslim urban contexts. Several approaches are found in looking at the modes of religious expression of Muslim communities in films, namely traditional, contemporary, critical and inclusive modes. It is hoped that the results of this research will provide a deeper understanding of the role of film as a medium for religious expression and how the evolution of religious fashion reflects the dynamics of urban Muslim society. In addition, analysis using four different approaches is expected to provide comprehensive and contextual insight into the complexity of religious expression in urban cinematic contexts.

Abstract

This research attempts to look at the Islamic side in horror films which are often misused, including in the film entitled Qodrat. The film Qodrat is a horror film that tells the story of the rukiah ability of a ustadz in eliminating irregularities by a ustadz in a village. This research was conducted using a content analysis approach. Look directly at the text in the Qodrat film to obtain relevant data. The results of this research show that Islam in the film Qodrat is represented by two characters or actors, namely a cleric named Jakfar who deviates from Islamic teachings and a cleric named Qodrat who firmly stands on Islamic teachings. Jakfar is a deviant from Islamic teachings behind religious clothes, Islamic boarding schools and the label of ustadz to take material advantage by making alliances with jinns to possess village residents. He received compensation that a cleric should not receive in curing people from being possessed by jinns and demons through rukiah. On the other hand, Qodrat is a religious figure who upholds Islamic beliefs in living his life and is not thirsty for material things. He believes that rukiyah is charity and it is their duty as religious leaders and is given the advantage of expelling jinn from the human body (rukiah).

Abstract

This study aims to explore the dimensions of liberation in Islamic teachings through the philosophical perspective of Nurcholish Madjid (Cak Nur). The background to this research is based on the need to understand Islam not only as a ritualistic religion, but also as a liberating force that upholds social justice, equality, and respect for human dignity. The research problem formulation in this study covers three main points: (1) What is the foundation of liberation theology in Islam? (2) What is the concept of liberation in Islam according to Nurcholish Madjid's thinking? (3) What are the philosophical values of liberation in Nurcholish Madjid's thinking? The research method used in this study is a literature study. This research was conducted by collecting, reviewing, and analyzing various literature relevant to the research theme. The data collection technique used is documentation, namely by collecting data from written sources such as Nurcholish Madjid's works, books, journals, and articles relevant to the theme of Islam as a religion of liberation. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique used descriptive-qualitative content analysis, interpreting the text to identify the main themes of Nurcholish Madjid's liberation thought, particularly those related to monotheism, justice, and pluralism. The results of the study indicate that, first, the foundation of liberation theology in Islam rests on the values of monotheism, justice (al-'adl), and social responsibility. This theology directs Muslims to fight against oppression and create a just, equal, and humane society. Second, according to Nurcholish Madjid, liberation is the core teaching of Islam, freeing humanity from all forms of colonialism, both physical and spiritual. Third, the philosophical values of liberation in Cak Nur's thought emphasize that monotheism is a doctrine of liberation from worldly power and oppression. He emphasizes the importance of pluralism, interfaith tolerance, and rejects the exploitation of religion for political gain. Finally, the author recommends that Muslims emphasize monotheism as the basis for social justice and the defense of the oppressed. Islam is understood as a moral force that liberates humanity from oppression, upholds equality, and rejects the politicization of religion.
