Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between parasite prevalence in milkfish and water quality in the Traditional Fishponds of Kedanyang Village, Gresik Regency. The research was conducted for one month in April 2023. Random samples of milkfish were taken from two ponds, with a total of 40 fish. Parasite examination was performed by observing ectoparasites on mucus, gills, fins, and scales, as well as endoparasites in the fish's internal organs. The identification results revealed the presence of two types of parasites in the traditional polyculture ponds of Kedanyang Village, namely Dactylogyrus found in the gills and Cappilaria sp. found in the digestive tract. The prevalence and intensity of these parasites ranged from 2.5% to 5% and 1-2, respectively, which can be classified as low. The water quality in the ponds was categorized as good and well-tolerated by the fish. Correlation analysis showed that temperature, salinity, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate had a weak positive relationship with parasite prevalence, while pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) had a weak negative relationship.

Abstract

Daphnia magna is a potential natural food source due to its nutritional content. The availability of Daphnia magna is not always consistent, posing a challenge to fish cultivation. An alternative solution is to use rice wash water and fermented cassava peel waste as a source of nutrition for Daphnia magna. Rice wash water contains soluble nutrients, while fermented cassava peel waste is rich in nutrients from the fermentation process. This research was conducted in the Fisheries Cultivation Laboratory, 1st Floor, Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik, in April-May 2023. The research method employed was experimental with five treatments and three replications. P1= 0% rice wash water, 100% fermented cassava peel; P2= 25% rice wash water, 75% fermented cassava peel; P3= 50% rice wash water, 50% fermented cassava peel; P4= 75% rice wash water, 25% fermented cassava peel; P5= 100% rice wash water, 0% fermented cassava peel. Data analysis used analysis of variance and least significant difference test. The results showed that treatment P3 had the highest population density with an average of 2578 individuals. Additionally, treatment P3 also yielded the highest growth rate of Daphnia magna, reaching a value of 28.35. The population distribution across all treatments predominantly showed the total length class <100µm. Overall, the water quality within the temperature range of 26-28°C and pH range of 6.5-8 indicated optimal conditions for the growth of Daphnia magna.

Abstract

The loss of pectoral fin is an undesirable trait always found in almost all catfish breeding programmes in Indonesia, so further investigation is needed to clarify this problem. This study aims to describe albinism in fish with pectoral fin deformity from an immunohistochemical perspective by evaluating the correlation between two proteins (TBX5 protein and TYR protein) from eye and skin tissues. We used an individual albino fish (TL = 42 cm) found by local farmers in the Kebomas district, Gresik, to study the histological differences between albino fish without pectoral fins and black fish with regular pectoral fins using descriptive methods. The histotechniques using HE staining followed the Bioscience Laboratory, and the immunohistochemical staining was performed according to the Biomedical Laboratory procedure at Brawijaya University. The slides were scanned using Aperio Scanning CS2. Morphological structure differences determination used a t-test (α = 0.05). Spearman's rank correlation assessed the relationship between fin morphology and albinism. The results showed significant differences between the skin and retinal thickness of the two fish (p <0.05), and the total retinal thickness of albino fish without pectoral fins was significantly thinner than that of regular fish. Rank correlations showed a positive association between pectoral fin loss and reduced skin and eye histology. The histochemical studies indicated that TBX5 is an important factor in pigmentation and fin development, but additional factors may disrupt TYR regulation in albino fish. The results of this study provide further evidence for considering pectoral fin phenotype as one of the evaluation factors to make the success of a breeding program.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the biometry of mud crabs caught from mangrove forests to support the provision of kempongan for mud crab cultivators. The research was conducted in Pangkahwetan Village, Ujungpangkah District, Gresik Regency, using a descriptive method. Samples (n= 2,240) collected in the period March-July 2022 from local fishermen. The research variables were biometry, carapace width frequency distribution, condition factor (C), ratio of male and female crabs, and maturity level of mud crabs. Data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2013. The sex ratio of crabs caught per month was analyzed by t-test (α=5%). The results of this study obtained a higher male sex ratio (88%) compared to females (12%) in the period March - July, 2022. Mud crab maturity based on the frequency distribution of female crab carapace width was 23.8% (March) , 24.1% (April), 61.5% (June), and 45.8% (July) while male crabs 6.2% (March), 2.9% (April), 6.3% (June ), and 8.2% (July). Male crabs are dominated by thin conditions and female crabs are dominated by fat conditions. The male and female crabs were statistically significantly different. The different conditions between male and female crabs obtained in this study indicate the need for separate management between male and female crabs when used as kempongan in a crab fattening business.

Abstract

Situs Ngimbang, yang meliputi Prasasti Watugurit dan kolam alami Sendanggede, rentan mengalami kerusakan akibat faktor alam dan aktivitas manusia. Hingga kini belum ada upaya edukatif yang secara langsung ditujukan untuk meningkatkan kepedulian masyarakat, terutama generasi muda, terhadap pelestarian situs ini. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi kepada pemuda lokal melalui metode eksplorasi terbimbing. Program dilaksanakan pada November 2024 di SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Ngimbang dan Situs Ngimbang. Sebanyak 15 siswa mengikuti rangkaian kegiatan yang terdiri dari pembelajaran klasikal, diskusi, dan observasi lapangan yang difasilitasi oleh akademisi dan ahli sejarah. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman siswa terhadap aspek historis dan ekologis situs, termasuk identifikasi kualitas air dan keberadaan organisme perairan. Temuan adanya spesies invasif seperti ikan louhan dan tungau darat di perairan menegaskan pentingnya pelestarian berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Abstrak Tujuan penelitian ini untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kreatif peserta didik dengan pembelajaran Project Based Learning yang diintegrasikan dengan strategi pembelajaran diferensiasi. Hal tersebut berdasarkan hasil pre-test yang menunjukkan bahwa siswa memiliki keterampilan berpikir kreatif, sedangkan untuk karateristik berpikir lancar termasuk dalam kategori rendah serta keterampilan berpikir luwes termasuk dalam kategori sedang. Penelitian ini termasuk Penelitian Tindakan Kelas dengan pelaksanaan selama dua siklus. Pada siklus I yang diterapkan hanya Project Based Learning. Pada siklus kedua, Project Based Learning diintegrasikan dengan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi. Setiap siklus terdiri dari empat langkah: perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, serta refleksi. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa tes keterampilan berpikir kreatif yang didukung dengan hasil angket respon siswa mengenai pembelajaran yang sudah dilakukan. Hasil penelitian menyatakan keterampilan berpikir kreatif peserta didik berhasil ditingkatkan karena terjadi peningkatan persentase hasil pada karakteristik kelancaran dan fleksibilitas dari siklus I serta siklus II. Karakteristik kelancaran meningkat dari 65,34% pada kategori sedang menjadi 88,52% pada kategori tinggi dan karakteristik keluwesan meningkat dari 73,21% pada kategori sedang menjadi 91,26% pada kategori sangat tinggi. Data tersebut didukung dengan angket respon peserta didik yang menyatakan bahwa proses pembelajaran memberikan kebebasan dalam menentukan ide dan pemikirannya dalam proses pembelajaran. Kata Kunci – Berpikir Kreatif, Project Based Learning, Strategi Pembelajaran Berdiferensiasi
