Abstract

PT. Petrokimia Gresik, established with a construction contract on August 10, 1964, stands as Indonesia's most comprehensive fertilizer factory. The company comprises various departments, including the Production Department IIIA, specializing in Phosphoric Acid Production. The objective of assessing the efficiency of a shell and tube cooler-type heat exchanger is to evaluate its performance, determining compliance with design specifications and identifying the need for cleaning and maintenance. The utilized heat exchanger, of the shell and tube type, employs water as its cooling source. According to design calculations conducted between September 13 and September 18, 2023, the expected efficiency of the cooler-type heat exchanger is 91.44%. However, actual data analysis over six days reveals a significant drop in efficiency, registering below 50%. A comparison between design and actual data suggests a decline in efficiency for the E-2502 cooler type. The decrease is attributed to substantial scaling in the E-2502 Heat Exchanger, stemming from the cooled P2O5 Acid solution and resulting in deposition during the heat transfer process. Consequently, it is imperative to initiate a cleaning process for the cooler-type heat exchanger to optimize the heat transfer mechanism.

Abstract

Sumber daya alam adalah kebutuhan utama makhluk hidup dengan berbagai macam jenisnya, salah satunya adalah sumber kebutuhan pokok yang cukup melimpah. PT Petrokimia Gresik adalah salah satu industri yang memproduksi pupuk dengan kualitas tinggi untuk menunjang kesejahteraan di bidang pertanian. Heat exchanger E-2501 adalah alat yang digunakan sebagai perpindahan panas dan berfungsi sebagai pemanas pada proses produksi asam fosfat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi E-2501 yang dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor yaitu perhitungan efisiensi perpindahan panas, fouling factor, dan pressure drop. Metodologi penelitian yang digunakan adalah observasi selama 5 hari untuk mendapatkan kondisi operasi E-2501 yang terdiri dari suhu, tekanan fluida, dan laju alir. Hasil dari evaluasi E-2501 yaitu efisiensi perpindahan panas  sebesar 74,98%, fouling factor sebesar 0,0134 Btu/jam.ft2.°F, pressure drop pada shell sebesar 5,8 x 10-17 Psi dan pressure drop pada tube sebesar 2,3548 Psi. Penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa E-2501 mampu beroperasi cukup bagus walaupun mengalami penurunan kinerja. Maka dari itu, PT Petrokimia Gresik diharapkan untuk terus meningkatkan perawatan E-2501 secara berkala dengan melakukan pembersihan dan perbaikan supaya proses produksi berjalan dengan optimal.

Abstract

In the wet process, phosphoric acid production uses sulfuric acid as a penetration medium for phosphate rock. This process produces a significantly greater gypsum phosphate byproduct than the phosphoric acid product. In the wet process, hemihydrate reactions and dehydration reactions occur. The hemihydrate reaction and dehydration reaction are reactions between phosphate rock and sulfuric acid in the pre-mixer, digester and hydration tank. The approach to the crystallization process of phospho gypsum can be depicted on the crystallization graph between %CaO and %SO4. Data on the phosphoric acid production process at PA IIIA PT Petrokimia Gresik was taken in the period January – December 2022 using Egyptian, Jordan, and Moroccan phosphate rock and in August 2023 using Algerian type phosphate rock based on predetermined product parameters. By entering several production rate parameters, the results obtained show that there are visual differences in the crystallization graph of different phosphate rock raw materials. AbstrakDalam wet process produksi asam fosfat menggunakan asam sulfat sebagai media penetrasi terhadap phosphate rock. Proses ini menghasilkan produk samping phospo gypsum secara signifikan lebih besar daripada produk asam fosfat. Dalam wet process terjadi reaksi hemihydrate dan reaksi dehydrate. Reaksi hemihydrate dan reaksi dehydrate merupakan reaksi antara phosphate rock dengan asam sulfat di bagian pre-mixer, digester, dan tangki hidrasi. Pendekatan proses kristalisasi phospo gypsum dapat digambarkan pada grafik kristalisasi antara %CaO dan %SO4. Data proses produksi asam fosfat di PA IIIA PT Petrokimia Gresik diambil pada rentang bulan Januari – Desember 2022 yang memakai phosphate rock jenis Mesir, Jordan, dan Maroko dan bulan Agustus 2023 yang memakai phosphate rock jenis Aljazair berdasarkan parameter produk yang sudah ditentukan. Dengan memasukkan beberapa parameter rate produksi didapatkan hasil bahwa ada perbedaan secara visual dalam grafik kristalisasi dari perbedaan bahan baku phosphate rock.
