Abstract

This journal reviews traditions that are considered misogynistic, i.e. traditions that refer to a negative/discriminatory view of women. The purpose of this study is to compare the thoughts of two figures, Sa'id Ramadhan al-Buthi and Abou El Fadl, in interpreting and understanding these traditions. The research instrument is library research by analyzing Islamic literature, especially misogynistic traditions. The data sources of this research are hadith books, books of both figures, supporting articles and so on. The result is that al-Buthi and Abou El Fadl have different perspectives in understanding misogynistic traditions. al-Buthi tends to take a literal approach and defends the validity and validity of misogynistic traditions, while Abou El Fadl is more critical and rejects the understanding that produces interpretations that harm women. The comparison of their thoughts in this journal provides a clearer understanding of how misogynistic traditions are understood and interpreted in the current context. The study provides insight that in the understanding and interpretation of misogynistic traditions, there is room for a more contextualized and inclusive approach that protects women's rights. The article demonstrates the importance of exploring and understanding the cultural, historical and social contexts in understanding and interpreting misogynistic traditions, as well as the need for fair and balanced interpretations with principles of gender equality.
