Abstract

This article depicts the role of natural gas reserves in Afghanistan in the production of electricity in the country. Also, this study estimates the impacts of electricity generation from natural gas on imported electricity. Afghanistan has 62nd position in the world's gas reserves, 79th position in the production of natural gas, and 104th position in the consumption of natural gas. Afghanistan has 1,750,000 million cubic feet of natural gas reserves, 6,675 million cubic feet of production of natural gas per year, and 5,163 million cubic feet of consumption of natural gas per year. Afghanistan's position in imports and exports of natural gas is zero in the world. Afghanistan’s natural gas reserves are 16.2 trillion cubic feet, located in the northern Amu-Darya and Afghan-Tajik regions, and they can respond to the energy demand of Afghanistan’s people. At present, the imports of electricity from neighboring countries are 4,900 GWh per year. To carry out this study, we have used secondary data that was collected from reliable academic sources. Descriptive analysis and a quantitative approach are used for analyzing the data. The result shows that electricity generation from the natural gas reserves of Afghanistan is 1,260.45 GWh per year. This amount can reduce the imported electricity from 4,900 GWh to 2,592.55 GWh.

Abstract

This study implies to evaluate biogas potential from livestock manure (cattle, sheep and goat) as an alternative to fossil fuel for Baghlan province of Afghanistan. Furthermore, Using biogas to generate electricity. The potential of biogas has been observed as top value with 1107715.3 (m3/ year) in Pul-I-Khumri and as the lowest with 238972.6 (m3/ year) in Tala Wa Barfak for cattle, sheep and goats. when cattle is investigated, the top biogas potential value was 927382.9 (m3/ year) in Khost Wa Fring, then Baghlan Jadeed with 902663.3 (m3/ year) is followed by Pul-I-Khumri with 900555.4 (m3/ year). The highest biogas potential value was 176711.4 (m3/ year) for sheep in Pul-I-Khumri and 45052.0 (m3/ year) for goat in Khost Wa Fring. The study implicates that just three animals (cattle, sheep and goat) generate 12815.6 (Mwh/year) ofeletrical energy with share of 83% cattle, 13% sheep and goat with 5% in the year of 2023. Finally, this paper concludes with a discussion of the environmental, social and economic benefits of biogas production and its potential role in mitigating climate change for this region.

Abstract

This study carries out design of 253 KW PV system for a 500 metric ton cold storage in Farah province. The design includes estimation and calculation of number of solar panel, inverter, batteries, and required land. Farah province located in western part of Afghanistan that has huge solar potential and 300 sunny days. The design of this PV system has calculated carefully. The methodology of this study includes descriptive analysis and formulas. For design o 253 KW PV system is necessary 421 modules, 8 inverters with 326.8 KW, 868 batteries, and 1234 m2 area or land. This will have positive impact on climate change and weather. The design of 253 KW PV system has need to more and careful consideration of different factors such as orientation, capacity of inverter and batteries, number of panels, batteries, and inverter.

Abstract

This study examines the SWOT analysis of Afghanistan’s coal trade in the international market. The analysis highlights the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Afghanistan has huge amount of coal reserves about 73 million tons that can be exploited for exports to international market. Also, this paper identifies the ways to growth of Afghan coal trade in the international market. There are several issues in the Afghan coal trade in the international market for addressing. Afghanistan has several opportunities for growth of coal trade that should be capitalized, such as coal demand increasing and development of infrastructure. There are several threats that should be mitigated, such as environmental concerns. Also, this paper identifies Afghanistan position in the international market of coal trade. Afghanistan has moderate position in the international market of coal trade. Currently, Afghanistan has exports of coal to Pakistan. The amount of coal trade to Pakistan was 2.7 million tons in 2022 with 12 billion and 143 million AFG revenue.
