Abstract

Environmental crisis has become a current issue for literary researches globally including in Indonesia. 'Mencari Ujung Pelangi' through an ecocritical approach, is providing a nuanced backdrop against which to explore the intricate dynamics of natural resource exploitation within literary contexts. This study is using eco-crititicism lens since it focuses on the relationship between literature and the environment. For the purpose of this study, the questions formulated were 1) How does "Mencari Ujung Pelangi" represent nature and environmental issues, and what critique does it offer against anthropocentric attitudes? 2) In what ways does the story promote environmental advocacy and consciousness, and how does it align with the ecocritical goals of fostering ecological awareness? Through the protagonist Alfi's eyes, we witness the impact of deforestation and industrialization”the factory replacing the forest”and the subsequent pollution of the nearby lake. The story critiques anthropocentrism”the human-centric view that prioritizes economic interests over ecological well-being”by highlighting the negative consequences of such attitudes.

Abstract

This article focuses on the analysis of the semantic structure of the Indonesian ‘die’ verbs. The lexicon variations for the Indonesian ‘die‘ verbs depend on to whom and in what way it is perceived when it happens. The Indonesian ‘die’ verbs have their meaning which can be expressed through the study of the Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) theoretical framework developed by Goddard and Wierzbicka (2013). The method used is a descriptive method with a qualitative research form. The data analysis technique used four steps including determining the semantic prime,  looking for the derivation of meaning, determining polysemy based on the object,  and paraphrasing meaning. To analyze the meaning of ‘die’ in Indonesian, the data used in this article were collected from the entry word 'mati' obtained from the dictionary https://kbbi.kemdikbud.go.id/entri/mati. The  results  showed  that  there  were  17 lexicons (meninggal dunia, tutup usia, wafat, berpulang, gugur, mangkat,  berlalu, berkalang tanah, berputih tulang, dipanggil Tuhan, mati, mampus, tewas, binasa, koit, modar, and jangkang) reffering  to the  ‘die’  concept, which were then grouped into two categories based  on  the entity and  the  result of  which the  ‘die’ concept  was  implemented.

Abstract

The evaluation of Catholic religious education requires an inclusive and fair approach, especially in the context of preparing for first communion. The aim of this paper is to review such evaluations through the lens of truth theory, highlighting the challenges faced by children with cognitive conditions such as dyslexia, ADHD, and intellectual disabilities. The method of memorizing basic prayers in first communion exams is considered to not always reflect a true understanding of faith, especially for children with cognitive conditions. The ethical implications of assessments that do not consider these special needs result in injustice towards children with cognitive disabilities. To ensure inclusivity, the research recommends modifications in the evaluation process, including the use of more flexible and holistic alternative evaluation methods. Although this paper provides relevant insights into the issue, further research involving participants of religious education and Catholic practitioners is needed to develop a more inclusive evaluation approach. In conclusion, the evaluation of Catholic religious education needs to consider the needs of individuals with cognitive disabilities to achieve inclusivity and justice in line with the teachings of the Catholic Church.AbstrakEvaluasi pendidikan iman Katolik memerlukan pendekatan yang inklusif dan adil, terutama dalam konteks persiapan penerimaan komuni pertama. Tujuan dari makalah ini adalah meninjau evaluasi tersebut melalui lensa teori kebenaran, dan menyoroti tantangan yang dihadapi anak-anak dengan kondisi kognitif seperti disleksia, ADHD, dan keterbelakangan mental. Metode hafalan doa-doa dasar dalam ujian komuni pertama dianggap tidak selalu mencerminkan pemahaman yang benar tentang iman, terutama bagi anak-anak dengan kondisi kognitif. Implikasi etis dari penilaian yang tidak mempertimbangkan kebutuhan khusus ini adalah ketidakadilan terhadap anak-anak dengan disabilitas kognitif. Untuk memastikan inklusivitas, penelitian merekomendasikan modifikasi dalam proses evaluasi, termasuk penggunaan metode evaluasi alternatif yang lebih fleksibel dan holistik. Meskipun makalah ini memberikan wawasan yang relevan dengan permasalahan, perlu dilakukan penelitian lanjutan yang melibatkan peserta pendidikan iman dan praktisi Katolik untuk pengembangan pendekatan evaluasi yang lebih inklusif. Kesimpulannya, evaluasi pendidikan iman Katolik perlu memperhatikan kebutuhan individu dengan disabilitas kognitif untuk mencapai inklusivitas dan keadilan yang sesuai dengan ajaran Gereja Katolik
