Extracurricular coaches have solid expertise in music and dance. The training method applied has proven effective in increasing student progress at each meeting. Music activities (dance accompaniment) have become one of the main extracurricular activities at this school, are widely known by the community, and continue to receive research from the school. However, there are still several obstacles in carrying out this activity, especially related to obstacles in renewing the necessary musical instruments. This is of further concern to future researchers, because this can hinder the smooth running of extracurricular activities. However, this activity will continue to be celebrated every year as one of the permanent extracurricular activities at this school.

Abstract

The problems in this research are inappropriate sound production techniques, such as still using chest breathing when singing, inappropriate intonation, unclear articulation, and inappropriate phrasing or sentence breaks in songs. This research aims to determine and describe efforts to improve choir abilities in class VII2 of SMP Negeri 42 Padang using the drill method. This research is classroom action research using the Kemmis and Mc Taggart model which was carried out in two cycles, each cycle consisting of four stages, namely: a) planning, b) implementation, c) observation and d) reflection. The results of this research indicate that the use of the drill method in the choir learning process in the choir team in class VII2 of SMP Negeri 42 Padang can improve students' ability to sing in a choir. This can be proven by obtaining an average score from the singing evaluation results. The average value obtained was pre-cycle 65%, cycle I 70.23%, and cycle II 75.71%.

Abstract

This research aims to provide a comprehensive overview and practice of the application of unison singing learning in the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 9 Solok Selatan. This research is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The main tool used for this research is the researcher themselves, supported by writing instruments and a mobile phone. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, literature studies, and documentation. The data analysis process includes data collection, data identification, data classification, data clarification, and conclusion formulation. The research findings demonstrate that the implementation of unison singing learning in the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 09 Solok Selatan is carried out optimally, although teachers face difficulties in formulating learning indicators and limitations in learning media that result in the learning process not being fully optimal. The teacher only utilises the whiteboard and textbooks as learning media, allowing students to express their creativity. In the learning process, the use of learning media is very limited, confined to the whiteboard and cultural arts books. The teacher applies a discovery learning approach that enables students to actively seek and find information on their own. From the researcher’s observations, many students do not fully understand the concept of singing in unison and applying the correct vocal techniques, resulting in their inability to sing with the right tempo and pitch, caused by the teacher's lack of understanding of unison singing material which leads to difficulties for students in learning unison songs.
