Abstract

In order to support the growth of tomato production and processing in the Kebbi State, an assessment of the tomato value chain was conducted. Approximately 2.3 million metric tons of fresh tomatoes are produced annually in Nigeria, but over half of them are wasted because of inadequate transportation, storage, and processing facilities. Because of this, it is critical to create plans for the tomato value chain's development. A critical analysis of the body of existing research and a schedule of interviews with important participants in the value chain, including producers, intermediary traders, retailers, and input suppliers, were the methods used for this study. Despite the great output of fresh tomatoes, the study also showed that Kebbi State is still not a major exporter of processed or fresh tomato products. It was discovered that this was caused by a lack of high-quality seed supplies, inadequate storage facilities, subpar disease and insect control, and subpar processing facilities. In order to overcome the obstacles, policies should support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) throughout the value chain; input supplies should be improved; farmers should be organized into cooperatives to launch creative funding mechanisms for them; processors should be placed in clusters; marketing strategies should be improved, including guaranteeing prices for fresh tomato products; technologies for processing and storage should be developed; farmers should adopt Good Agricultural Practices (GAP); and a strong National Commodity Association or Network should be established.

Abstract

This study examined the economic analysis of rice production in Kebbi State, Nigeria. The specific objectives were to identify the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents, estimate the cost and returns, and evaluate the efficiency of resource use. Primary data were used in the study. They were obtained through a questionnaire A total of 160 rice farmers engaged in rice production were investigated. The collated data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, budgetary analysis, and resource use efficiency models. Results from the analyzes revealed that most rice farmers were above productive age, experienced, and could read and write. Empirical results also revealed that rice production is viable with approximately 40% return on investment for every N1 invested in the rice farming enterprise. Resource use efficiency in the study area showed underutilization of seed, farm size, fertilizer, and agrochemicals. It is recommended that the farmers in the study area should be provided with farm input and improved technologies, which could enable them to become more efficient in rice production and further guarantee sustainable growth and food security.

Abstract

The study analysed the economics of paddy rice marketing in Kebbi State Nigeria. A multi stage sampling technique was used. Data were collected using structured questionnaires administered to 320 paddy rice marketers. Data was analysed using Descriptive statistics, Gross margin and multiple regression analysis. Majority 79.1% had attained one form of education while 56.3% were members of cooperative with an average membership of 7 years and had an average income of about ₦70,000. Result on costs and returns of paddy rice marketing had a net return of ₦10,330 per metric tonne, the return on naira spent was 7.3% which implied that for every ₦1 spent in marketing of paddy rice, a profit of 73kobo was realised as return to investment. The factors that affect price of paddy rice shows about 62% in the total variation in price of paddy rice was greatly influenced by cooperative membership, duration of storage, marketing experience and Distance to market at 5% level of significance. The determinants of profit earned by paddy marketers shows that the variables for storage cost and transportation cost were significant at 1% while licensing was significant at 5% level of probability.

Abstract

This study explores the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and agricultural user interfaces, aiming to enhance the efficiency and user experience within the agricultural domain. A thorough literature review identifies current trends, challenges, and gaps in HCI research specific to agricultural interfaces. The research objectives encompass the proposal of HCI design principles tailored to the unique characteristics of the agricultural environment. Methodologically, the study employs user surveys, interviews, and usability testing to gather insights into user preferences and challenges. The paper presents case studies highlighting successful implementations of HCI principles in agricultural settings, providing tangible examples of improved user engagement and task performance. Challenges and limitations in HCI adoption in agriculture are discussed, along with user feedback and evaluations shaping interface design. The implications of the research extend to HCI practitioners, agricultural technology developers, and policymakers, offering practical insights for future developments. This paper contributes valuable knowledge to the evolving field of HCI in agricultural contexts, emphasizing the importance of user-centered design.

The data collected from the respondents were analyzed using frequency counts and mean scores for all the research questions. The findings revealed that all variable factors are responsible for the low academic performance of students except the involvement of parents in the Parents Teachers Association (P.T.A). Based on these findings, the following recommendations are made: Teachers should employ various teaching strategies as well and the teaching must be from simple to complex for a better understanding of their students, Teachers should develop positive attitudes towards the students under his/her control to ensure effective learning and better performance of their students and Parents should give more attention and proper monitoring to their children education.
