Abstract

Wahabi’s school of thought was pioneered by Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahab’s thought who was indirectly inspired by Ibn Taimiyyah’s spirit of renewal in the context of purifying the faith. In its existence, this school has emerged and developed inseparable by the support from Saud family on symbiosis mutualism behind it. Paradigmatically, this school has a tendency not to adhere to any schools in fiqh and tasawwuf, but in its faith, it adopts the concept of Ibn Taymiyyah’s trilogy of aqidah, namely: Rububiyah, Uluhiyah, and Asma wa Sifat. Dialectically, it’s a puritanist, literalist, revivalist, and tends to be rigid in practice. This thought has a blur limit of worshiping which consequently has a tendency of being takfiri. Consequently, it cannot be separated from its pros and cons in its journey even when they have changed their way of spreading to be more diplomatic nowadays.

Abstract

Of the many tafsir books, Tafsir al-Kasyaf by al-Zamakhsyari is a book of tafsir that has a broad scope which is thought to have Mu'tazilah nuances in it. It was felt that previous studies had not yet optimally dissected the nuances of mutism in this book of tafsir, for this reason this research using the literature method was designed to explore this matter more deeply. The results of the research show that Tafsir al-Kasyaf is convincingly proven to have Mu'tazilah nuances by excluding one chapter, namely the Al-Qur'an is Kalamullah according to al-Zamakhsyari.

Abstract

This study discusses the dichotomy of economic paradigms, examined both theoretically and practically, in relation to the value of economic inclusivity, and aims to contextualize the definitions of monetary verses in the Qur’an. The research was undertaken because the interpretation of currency by the majority of mufassir (Qur’anic commentators), Islamic academics, and economists has misinterpreted the meaning of money when linked to the development of today’s monetary system. This study employs a literature review method and thematic interpretation that is appropriate given the relevance of non-field data samples. The findings indicate that the heterodox economic paradigm is more coherent than the orthodox paradigm from a theoretical standpoint, and this view is supported by strong archaeological evidence. A monetarily sovereign government is at least capable of purchasing anything domestically, including employing the entire unemployed population. In addressing poverty, inequality, unemployment, and inclusivity, the heterodox paradigm features a consumption-led growth program that is considerably more efficient and has a better economic impact compared to the orthodox paradigm’s investment-led growth policy proposals. In terms of interpretation, the understanding of money as a medium of exchange from the orthodox paradigm is only suitable for mercantile societies without authority, as was the case in the Arab world during the Jahiliyyah era, whereas the definition of money as a unit of account is a more appropriate definition to be used today in light of the differences and advancements in the monetary system

Abstract

This research is based on the ongoing debate among scholars, Islamic academics, and economists regarding the legal status of interest (bunga) in bank credit loans. The study explores the legal reasoning (istinbat al-ahkam) of al-Jashash as an initial reflection of how the ruling on riba was formulated. It also opens the possibility for contextual interpretations and the application of other methods of istinbat to bridge the gap between classical concepts of riba and the contemporary monetary context. This study uses library research and thematic (mawdhu’i) tafsir methodology, considering the data is literary and thematic in nature. The findings indicate that al-Jassas’s interpretation of riba involves both linguistic and contextual ijtihad, employing not only linguistic analysis but also an understanding of the socio-historical context before and after the revelation of the verses concerning riba. In general, al-Jassas specifies (takhsis) the Qur’anic verses with hadith, statements of the companions, and consensus (ijma) of scholars, concluding that riba nasi’ah (deferred/usury-based credit) is prohibited. However, this type of istinbat lacks sufficient theoretical depth to address the legal development of riba in today’s context, and thus requires modification through qiyas.
