Abstract

Death is inevitable. All living things in this world will die. Death does not discriminate by age, social status, or gender. Everything is predetermined by God; it is up to us to determine how we prepare for it. Death is a state of total loss of life. Our spirit is no longer within our body. Psychology is defined as: a science that studies behavior and mental processes. Psychology not only examines human life after death, but also often studies the attitudes and perspectives people take on the issue of death, as well as the psychological state of humans at the moment of death. Therefore, the psychology of death is a person's perspective on death, both before and after that moment. In this article, I discuss the relationship between cathartic novels and the psychology of death.

Abstract

This Community Service Activity (PKM) aims to improve the reading literacy skills of junior high school students at Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur through training in quick and easy extensive reading techniques. The training was conducted by a team of lecturers from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Department of FBS Unesa, targeting 20 students from the Klang Malaysia Learning Center. The methods used included lectures, discussions, guided training, and mentoring. The training material covered the concepts of extensive reading, speed reading strategies, and effective text comprehension. Participants were given various texts on environmental themes and fables tailored to their age and abilities. After the reading training, students engaged in creative writing activities as a way to apply their reading comprehension skills. The results of the activity showed an increase in enthusiasm, motivation to read, and the ability to comprehend texts quickly. Most participants were able to produce creative writing based on their reading, although some students still required intensive mentoring due to their limited basic reading skills. The outputs of the activity included video documentation, mass media publications, scientific articles, and intellectual property rights certificates. Overall, this training was effective in fostering students' interest in reading and strengthening their literacy skills, and it is recommended to be continued with a sustainable mentoring program.

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has shifted literary consumption patterns from print media to digital platforms, particularly among university students. This phenomenon raises questions about the extent of students' interest and engagement in reading literary works through the Wattpad platform. This study aims to describe the level of digital literary reading interest among university students via Wattpad, encompassing frequency patterns, duration, motivation, genre preferences, emotional responses, and reader engagement. A descriptive quantitative approach with a survey method was employed. Data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed via Google Form to 51 university students from various higher education institutions across Indonesia in May 2026, using purposive sampling. The instrument comprised eleven closed-ended items covering conceptual understanding, reading frequency, media preferences, platform usage patterns, motivation, emotional responses, genre preferences, and active engagement. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of frequency distributions and percentages. The results indicate that 98.0% of respondents correctly understand digital literature, and 94.1% remain active readers at least once per week. Some 88.2% use digital devices as their primary reading medium, and 78.4% have used Wattpad for more than three years. Digital accessibility emerged as the dominant motivating factor (51.0%), followed by content relevance (31.4%). Romance/Romantic Comedy was the most preferred genre (58.8%), while semi-active engagement was the predominant participation level (56.9%). This study concludes that Wattpad plays a strategic role in sustaining and enhancing digital literary reading interest among Indonesian university students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the mind mapping strategy on the reading comprehension skills of PBSI UNESA students. The study employed a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 21 students as respondents. Data were collected through pretests, posttests, and student response questionnaires. The results indicate that the mind mapping strategy has a positive effect on students’ reading comprehension skills. Improvements were observed in the ability to comprehend reading content, identify main ideas, and think critically. Additionally, most students provided positive feedback because this strategy helped them understand the text more easily and made reading activities more engaging. Thus, mind mapping is effective as an alternative reading comprehension learning strategy for PBSI UNESA students.
