Abstract

This research was created to answer problems regarding the dynamics and activities of the liberal Islamic network in Indonesia from the time of its founding, the background to its formation, and the activities of the liberal Islamic network from 2001 to 2005. The research method used in this research is a qualitative method carried out using a literature study. through a historical approach. The results of this research describe liberal Islamic thought at the beginning of its development in Indonesia. Several figures are involved in liberal thinking and often have pros and cons. Until the formation of a liberal Islamic network which existed to modernize Islamic thought. The ideas of liberal Islamic network figures and activists are neatly stored on their website. And it can be seen that at the beginning of its founding, the liberal Islamic network was already active in activities as a mission to spread it. However, it is still accompanied by differences and contradictions among Indonesian society.
