Abstract

Patient safety encompasses a system of services designed to ensure that patients feel secure. This includes proper identification, learning from incidents, injury prevention due to errors, follow-up actions, risk analysis, patient incident assessment, and risk management related to reporting. Implementing solutions to minimize risks also involves preventing injuries caused by employee negligence in performing incorrect actions. The objective of this research is to determine the impact of nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding patient safety on the risk of patient falls. The study design is quasi-experimental (Pre and Post Test Without Control). Data analysis utilized univariate and bivariate methods. In this study, 50 respondents participated in an intervention. The average pre-test and post-test scores were analyzed to evaluate the influence of nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and practices on patient safety concerning the incidence of fall risk. The results indicated that there was no significant influence of knowledge and application of patient safety on fall risk (p-Value 0.230 > 0.05). However, there was a significant influence of nurses' attitudes on fall risk events (p-Value 0.000 < 0.05).

Abstract

Appendicitis ranks highest among emergency cases in the abdomen if not treated immediately will cause severe infection until the intestinal lumen can rupture. Pain will appear as a nursing problem for patients who have undergone appendectomy surgery because it is an act of removing the infected appendix through surgery. Pain can be minimized, one of which is with autogenic relaxation training. Activities start from measuring vital signs, pain scale, assessing anxious expressions, then autogenic relaxation training. Education is carried out to assess the knowledge of the community with a history of post-appendectomy surgery about autogenic relaxation and is carried out in collaboration with local village officials. The method used in this activity is counseling about autogenic relaxation training from a team of nursing lecturers and nursing students as many as 36 respondents. The results obtained from respondents before being given education were 36 people who stated that they did not know about autogenic relaxation training and the pain scale felt was above 6 after appendectomy surgery. The output of the PkM that has been implemented is expected to increase knowledge about autogenic relaxation training after autogenic relaxation training is implemented in the community.

Abstract

This community service project aims to raise awareness and knowledge about health among the elderly through the GERKASA-LASAKIT program (Movement for Healthy and Disease-Aware Seniors) in Dusun 1, Tanjung Anom Village, Deli Serdang Regency. This initiative is driven by the high prevalence of degenerative diseases and the lack of accurate information regarding the prevention and management of these diseases among seniors. Through comprehensive health education, it is hoped that the elderly can improve their quality of life by adopting a healthy lifestyle and gaining a better understanding of common illnesses they may face. The methods used in this project include health education sessions, practical training on early disease detection, and physical activities tailored to the physical condition of the elderly. Health education is provided by medical professionals and public health experts. Additionally, individual consultation sessions are held to offer more personalized care for each participant. The results of this activity show an increase in health knowledge and awareness among the elderly, as evidenced by high participation and enthusiasm in each session. Seniors involved in this program have also begun adopting healthier lifestyles, such as engaging in regular light exercise and having routine health check-ups. This project has successfully built a support network among the elderly, their families, and the local community, creating a more caring and health-conscious environment. Thus, the GERKASA-LASAKIT program makes a significant contribution to improving the quality of life for the elderly in Dusun 1, Tanjung Anom Village. The sustainability of this program is expected to serve as a model for other villages in efforts to enhance the welfare and health of the elderly at the local level.

Abstract

A fracture is a condition where the continuity of the bone is disrupted due to a hard impact, often causing significant pain in sufferers. Pain management does not only rely on pharmacological therapy but can also be combined with non-pharmacological therapies, one of which is through cold compresses using ice packs. This therapy is effective because it can reduce pain nerve conduction and reduce blood flow to the injured area, thereby suppressing pain. This activity aims to provide public education on the use of cold compresses as an alternative pain management in fracture cases. Before the activity began, vital signs were measured and a pain scale was assessed as a basis for evaluation. The education was carried out using leaflets by a team of lecturers and nursing students to 30 village community participants. Based on interviews, most participants had never received information about the benefits of cold compresses in pain management. Before the education, 23 participants were accustomed to managing pain with pain relievers, while the other 7 used other non-pharmacological methods such as hot compresses, deep breathing relaxation, and behavioral therapy. After participating in the activity, the community demonstrated an understanding that cold compresses using ice packs applied for 20 minutes when pain occurs can be a simple, inexpensive, and effective method for reducing pain caused by fractures. This activity involves village officials and the community as a collaborative effort to improve health literacy. It is hoped that the community will be able to implement cold compress therapy as a self-help option for managing fracture pain, thereby reducing reliance on analgesic medications.
