Abstract

Stunting is a disorder of child growth and development caused by inadequate nutritional intake and is characterized by below standard height. The stunting prevalence rate in Indonesia still exceeds the WHO recommendation, which is 20%, which is 24.4%. The problem of stunting in Indonesia is related to food security, economic and social conditions of the community. From this aspect, variables that are suspected of influencing stunting in Indonesia include food expenditure, food insecurity, PMT in KEK pregnant women, food insufficiency, level of education, and proper sanitation, the data of which was obtained from the Ministry of Health and BPS. The results of mapping the percentage of stunting show that areas that need to accelerate the reduction of stunting are in the eastern provinces of Indonesia and there is a spatial autocorrelation in the percentage of stunting between provinces in Indonesia. Based on the Spatial Autoregressive (SAR) model, only the education level variable has no significant effect and the percentage of stunting in a province in Indonesia will have a significant positive effect on the percentage of stunting in surrounding provinces.

Abstract

Local governments play a role as implementers of central government policies at the local level and are given the authority to carry out development through decentralization mechanisms. Decentralization provides autonomy to local governments so that they can regulate and manage their regions based on their unique social, cultural, and economic conditions. One form of decentralization is fiscal decentralization, which is the granting of rights to local governments to manage their finances independently. This study aims to evaluate the impact of fiscal decentralization, economic growth, and the human development index on poverty levels in 35 districts/cities in Central Java Province from 2020 to 2023. The analysis was conducted using the Random Effect Model (REM), selected based on the results of the Chow and Hausman tests, as it can handle the heterogeneity in panel data. The results of the study indicate that all three variables have a significant impact on poverty levels, thereby providing a foundation for poverty alleviation efforts at the local level.

Abstract

Indonesia has been known as the largest agricultural country in Southeast Asia. However, the sector contribution to national output has declined. This indicates a low interconnection between agriculture and the other sectors despite the sector’s significant potential to stimulate other industries’ output through strong backward and forward linkages. This condition is caused by the role of production factors that determine agricultural output. Therefore, the research aims to analyse agriculture’s linkages with other sectors and to assess the effects its production factor on agricultural output. Using Input–Output multiplier analysis, it is found the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector is the largest absorber of labour in Indonesia. This sector is predominantly consumed directly by households. Meanwhile, panel model results for 2010–2024 show that increases in labour without accompanying improvements in quality have a negative effect, whereas investment and credit, as manifestations of capital, have positive effects on agricultural gross value added. Policy implications include prioritizing skills development and improving access to credit and investment to foster adoption of productivity-enhancing technologies, thereby enabling the agricultural sector to grow and exert greater influence on other sectors and on the national economy.
