This study aims to determine the epidemiological data of T2DM during the COVID-19 pandemic in family doctor practices in Manado City, with the specific aim of knowing its prevalence and pattern of it. This study was a retrospective descriptive study with a cross-sectional study design. Data were from the medical record data of T2DM patients in family doctor practices in Manado City from June 2021 to May 2022. Abstract

Adolescence, from 10 years to 24 years, is the transitional stage when a child becomes an adult. This is a critical stage that affects the quality of life and adulthood. Family doctors, the first point of contact for healthcare services, play an important role in ensuring the growth and development of adolescents' lives. Family doctors have an advantage in supporting adolescent mental health, because of their comprehensive knowledge regarding patients and their families as well as their relationship with society or the community. The role of family doctors is discussed in the five star doctor concept.

Abstract

Background: Adolescents who are individuals aged between 10 and 19 years, are facing health problems, one of which is being above normal weight. The fatten adolescents tend to have a lower quality of life (QoL) compared to adolescents with normal nutritional status. Aim: To determine the QoL of the high school adolescents with excess weight in Kotamobagu City post-COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This study was a quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional design, with a cluster random sampling technique. We used the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) and measure the height and weight of the participants. Results: The study involved 353 adolescents, 14.4% of whom were excess weight. The study showed that the excess weight participants had QoL in physical health domain of 66.03±9.67 (42.85 - 85.71), psychological domain of 60.29±17.02 (16.67 - 91.67), social relationship domain of 57.02±13.16 (16.67 - 83.33), environmental domain of 64.03±15.06 (31.25 - 90.62). Conclusion: The QoL of high school adolescents with excess weight in Kotamobagu City post-COVID-19 pandemic has increased in all aspects. However, globally, the QoL is adequate in environmental domain and are quite lower in physical health, psychological, and social relationship aspects. Abstract

Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a significant public health problem at global and local levels, including in Manado City. The Malalayang District reports high case numbers due to population density and environmental conditions that support vector breeding. Although preventive information is easily accessible, community preventive practices remain suboptimal. Aim: To identify the factors associated with community practices in dengue hemorrhagic fever prevention in Malalayang District, Manado City. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used involving 110 respondents selected across three high-risk areas. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square tests. Results: Most respondents were female (57.3%), aged 17–25 years (30.0%), had a senior high school education (49.1%), were in the emerging middle class category (53.6%), and were exposed to dengue-related information (93.6%). Age (p = 0.001) and education level (p = 0.020) were significantly associated with preventive actions, whereas sex (p = 0.843), economic status (p = 0.144), and information exposure (p = 0.966) showed no significant associations. Conclusion: Dengue prevention practices in Malalayang are influenced by age and education level, while sex, economic status, and information exposure are not significantly associated.

Abstract

Background: Floods occur frequently in Indonesia and pose substantial risks to affected communities. Community preparedness is shaped by levels of knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to disaster risk reduction. Aim: This study aimed to examine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and practices and flood preparedness among residents of Tateli Tiga Village. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed, involving 97 respondents selected through proportional quota sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test, as appropriate. Result: The majority of respondents demonstrated good knowledge (82.5%), positive attitudes (78.3%), good practices (86.6%), and adequate flood preparedness (52.6%). A significant association was identified between knowledge and flood preparedness (p = 0.035; OR = 3.247). No significant associations were observed between attitudes (p = 0.070) or practices (p = 0.487) and preparedness. Conclusion: Knowledge was significantly associated with community flood preparedness, whereas attitudes and practices were not.

Abstract

Background: Unintended pregnancy among adolescents remains a major public health concern both globally and in Indonesia. In Manado City, recent data on adolescent behaviour related to the prevention of unintended pregnancy are still limited. Aim: This study aimed to describe adolescent behaviour regarding the prevention of unintended pregnancy in senior high schools in Manado City. Methods: A quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. A total of 403 students were selected through cluster random sampling from two schools: SMA A and SMA B, Manado. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability (Cronbach’s alpha: knowledge = 0.931; attitude = 0.736). Data were analysed using univariate methods. Results: Overall, 76.2% of adolescents demonstrated good knowledge, 22.8% had sufficient knowledge, and 1.0% had poor knowledge regarding the prevention of unintended pregnancy. With respect to attitudes, 70.7% of respondents exhibited a positive attitude, while 29.3% showed a negative attitude. Conclusion: The majority of adolescents in Manado City possess good knowledge and hold positive attitudes toward the prevention of unintended pregnancy.
