Abstract

Abstract

Quality seedlings are needed to increase land reclamation and rehabilitation activities. Quality seedlings are genetically, physically and physiologically superior seedlings so that they are able to adapt to critical environments. Seedlings are said to be of friendly quality, having normal growth, straight trunk, healthy and free from pests and diseases. One way to provide quality seedlings is to build a nursery like the one at PT Natarang Mining. However, the seedlings produced by this nursery are still of low quality because they are attacked by pests and diseases. In this study, an investigation of pests and diseases in the nursery of PT Natarang Mining was carried out. Data were collected by random sampling with a sampling intensity of 10% so that the sample used was 1,210 forest plant seedlings. Then carried out observations on the forest plant seedlings to see whether there are defects caused by pests and diseases. From the observations it is known that the pests and diseases that attack plant seedlings in the nursery forest of PT Natarang Mining are dominated by snail pests (26%) and leaf spot disease (16%). These pests and diseases can be overcome in several ways, including by implementing thinning activities and by using plant-based insecticides and fungicides such as garlic extract, neem leaves and others. Pest and disease control can also be done by using chemicals such as fungicides with benomyl and sulfur as an active ingredient.

Abstract

Plants belonging to the genus Ficus have many benefits for the life of the people and animals in it for example as water system guard, absorbing CO2, feed sources and habitat for various species of animals and has potential as a traditional medicine. This research aims to identify the species and benefits of Ficus spp. at Sumber Agung DS Collection Block of Wan Abdul Rachman Tahura. Methods of collecting data carried out by surveying forest vegetation using the pathway method, interviews with forest land cultivators, and literature studies. Data were analyzed by identifying plant belonging to the genus Ficus using a guidebook and using descriptive analysis of the results of interviews with forest land cultivators. The results of this research showed that there are six species of plants of the genus Ficus, namely Ficus ampelas, Ficus septica, Ficus benjamina, Ficus variegata, Ficus hispida, and Ficus annulata which can be used as medicinal plants, animal and livestock feed, micro-climate providers, and ornamental plants. A further research is needed related to the suitability of the growing place for Ficus spp. and socialization by related agencies regarding the benefits and uses of plant members of the genus Ficus so that the community can further improve the maintenance and preservation of Ficus spp.

Abstract

Diversity of local tree species is important in the selection of tree species for reforestation of forest areas. The objectives of this study are to determine the diversity of local tree species, to determine the dominant local tree species and suitable for reforestation in the Register 31 protection forest area, Lampung Province. Data were collected using observational methods and analyzed by descriptive analysis. Furthermore, vegetation analysis is carried out to determine the index of importance value which can then determine the dominance of each local tree population and the diversity of local tree species themselves. The results showed that the most dominant local tree population was durian (Durio zibethinus) with an important value index of 46.5875. The existence of durian trees for all growth phases, including seedlings, poles, saplings, and mature trees, is the most dominant. The local tree species diversity index (H’) was 1.0926. This indicates that the diversity of local tree species in the Register 31 protection forest area is in medium category. Therefore, efforts to enrich local tree species need to be done to maintain the preservation of local tree species in the Register 31 protection forest area, Lampung Province.

Abstract

The diversity of tree species in urban forests has benefits in maintaining the microclimate, aesthetic value, and preserving biodiversity in the urban environment. This study aims to analyze the diversity of tree species in the Metro City Forest. Data collection on the diversity of tree species was taken using purposive sampling method. Tree species diversity data were analyzed using the significance value index (INP) and the Shannon diversity index (H). The results showed that the mahogany species had the highest INP value, which was 52.7%. The Tesarigaga City Forest has the highest diversity index value of 2.38 which is included in the medium category and the Islamic Center City Forest has the lowest diversity index value of 1.27 which is included in the low category. This can be increased through tree diversity by increasing the diversity of plant species as a source of germplasm.
