Abstract

Glaucoma is a condition where eye pressure damage the optic nerve. Usually, high eye pressure will gradually damage the optic nerve fibers, resulting in disruption of the field of vision. Galucoma is the second most common cause of blindness in the world after cataracts. This study aims to determine the factors associated with glaucoma sufferers. The research conducted is analytic in nature with a case control study design that aims to see the relationship of the independent variables. Data obtained from medical records that met the inclusion criteria were 55 medical record data. Because it met the inclusion criteria, all data was used as a researchsample (total sampling). The result of this study show that of the 4 risk factors for glaucoma patients, all have a relantionship of the occurrence of glaucoma. Calculated Chi-Square value with < p=0,05), this shows that there is a significant relationship between risk factors for glaucoma sufferers. It is hoped that every health service center will routinely provide education to patients about the importance of regular eye health checks. In order to be able to detect more quickly if you have early symptoms of eye disorders.

Abstract

Climate change has significantly influenced the spread of infectious diseases, particularly in coastal regions where rising temperatures, increased precipitation, and extreme weather events create favorable conditions for disease transmission. This study examines the relationship between climate change and the prevalence of vector-borne and waterborne diseases in coastal communities, addressing gaps in previous research that primarily focused on macro-level epidemiological trends. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from multiple coastal regions, analyzing climate variables and disease incidence rates. The findings reveal a strong correlation between increasing temperatures and the expansion of disease vectors such as mosquitoes, contributing to higher cases of malaria and dengue fever. Additionally, poor drainage systems and inadequate sanitation were found to exacerbate the spread of cholera and typhoid fever. While community-driven adaptation strategies—such as improved water storage and mosquito control—play a role in mitigating risks, institutional responses remain fragmented, limiting long-term disease prevention efforts. This study underscores the urgent need for climate-resilient public health infrastructure, decentralized early warning systems, and the integration of public health and climate adaptation policies to reduce disease outbreaks in vulnerable coastal populations. Future research should explore longitudinal data on climate-disease interactions and assess the effectiveness of policy-driven interventions. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how climate change exacerbates public health risks and highlight the necessity for proactive, evidence-based strategies to enhance resilience in coastal regions.

Abstract

Refractive errors are the third most common cause of blindness. Uncorrected refractive errors in children will disrupt their learning process. Good parental knowledge and action regarding disorders will be able to prevent vision problems in children. This study aims to study the correlation between parents' level of knowledge and actions regarding refractive errors in children. The design of this research is cross sectional analytic. The sample for this research was parents of students at SD Negeri 101751 Klambir V grades 1 and 2. The sample size was 61 respondents. The sampling technique used simple random sampling. The instrument used in the research was a questionnaire. The data obtained was tested using Spearman analysis. The results of this study show that there is a significant correlation between the level of parental knowledge and actions regarding refractive errors in children with a value of p < 0.05 (p = 0.000). The close relationship between variables is moderate with a value of r=0.478. The level of parents' knowledge of refractive errors is significantly related to their actions. It is hoped that there will be a promotional program from the health department to provide education or counseling regarding eye health, and visual acuity screening, for early detection of refractive errors in children.

Abstract

Contact lenses are usually attached to the cornea of the eye contact lenses usually have a corrective purpose like glasses but the difference is that contact lenses are lighter and almost invisible. Dry eye caused by contact lenses is one of the health problems is developing in the community, one of the reasons and ultimately has an impact on vision problems where eventually vision becomes blurry. The purpose of this study was to ascertain how contact lenses affected dry eyes. This study used a quantity method for its survey investigation. DTA collecting methods use a nominal scale questionnaire. Using a straightforward linear regression test, the study sample consisted of 49 respondents who are students at the University Pembangunan Panca Budi Medan Faculties Agama Islam Dan Humaniora. It was determined from the results that there is no significant correlation between the dependent variable, namely dry eye symptoms, and the independent variable, the length of time using soft contact lenses. The R square values indicate that there is only a 19,8% correlation between the symptoms of dry eyes and long-term contact lens usage.
