Design of the Interactive Book Siri' Na Pesse (Philosophy of Life for the Bugis Tribe)ABSTRACTThis design was developed to provide information as an effort to enhance the understanding of the Bugis community regarding the philosophical values embedded in siri’ na pesse, a life philosophy that forms the cultural foundation of the Bugis people. Although the values of siri’ na pesse are still preserved, shifts in the application of these values have emerged over time, leading to social conflicts within the community. One of the main contributing factors is the lack of comprehensive understanding. In response to this phenomenon, an interactive illustrated book was developed, utilizing paper engineering (movable book) techniques. The design integrates culturally meaningful narratives with an interactive print-based approach. The book’s content, structured as a collection of stories, was designed based on theories of cultural values and the life philosophy of the Bugis community, while the design process adopted the design thinking framework. The design process began with data collection through literature review, participatory observation, and in-depth interviews. Collected data were analyzed using the 5W+1H method to ensure depth and relevance of content. The final outcome is an interactive book comprising nine short stories and one epilogue, illustrating the application of siri’ na pesse across various historical and contemporary contexts. The interactive book was selected as the medium due to its ability to deliver information in an engaging way, facilitate active reader interaction, and offer competitive potential. Through a light-hearted and immersive approach, the book invites readers to reflect meaningfully on the deeper essence of siri’ na pesse without feeling didactic or monotonous.
