Abstract

This article aims to elucidate the phenomenon of nepotism within the context of democracy, utilizing a qualitative research approach and a descriptive-analytical methodology based on a literature review. It addresses three primary issues: firstly, the construction of an ideal democracy; secondly, the impact of nepotism on the integrity of democracy; and thirdly, practical strategies for combating nepotistic practices. The study reveals that an ideal democracy should champion the principles of popular sovereignty, transparency, accountability, and meritocracy. However, nepotism undermines these principles by allocating positions and resources based on personal relationships rather than competence, reducing the quality of public policy and creating social disparities. It erodes public trust and inhibits citizen participation in the democratic process. Nepotistic practices contribute to political and economic stagnation and disrupt the equitable distribution of social justice, with long-term impacts such as the erosion of institutional integrity. This article recommends combating nepotism by implementing stringent anti-nepotism laws, strengthening independent oversight bodies, and using information technology to enhance transparency and accountability. Public education on integrity and professionalism is also emphasized as a means to raise awareness and reduce tolerance for nepotism. Overall, the article provides deep insights into how ideal democracy can be degraded by nepotism and offers concrete strategies to reinforce the foundations of democracy, ensure social justice, and support sustainable economic growth. Collective efforts to eradicate nepotism will not only strengthen democracy but also ensure that governance is more effective and fair.

Abstract

The issue of political dynasties has increasingly emerged in democratic systems, including in Indonesia. The political dynasty of Jokowi's family is interesting to analyze as it demonstrates how political communication can be strategically implemented in building a positive image and gaining broad public support. This research aims to examine how Jokowi's family's political communication shapes the image of their political dynasty. The theories used are political communication and framing. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach to illustrate political communication in forming a positive image of Jokowi's family political dynasty. Data was obtained through literature studies utilizing various sources such as books, scientific journals, research reports, magazines, and other related research articles. The analysis used in this research is content analysis by analyzing textual, visual, or symbolic data to identify meaning. This research is limited to the period from the beginning of Jokowi's career as Mayor of Solo until the formation of his family's political influence at the national level, particularly approaching the 2024 Election. This research finds two main political communication strategies: through family political regeneration and consistent framing use. The researchers found that the political success of Jokowi's family demonstrates the effectiveness of planned and long-term-oriented political communication strategies. Through portraying themselves as a family close to the people, both through direct and symbolic messages, they have successfully built public trust, which became the key to consecutive victories in various elections, both by Jokowi himself and his family members.

Abstract

This study explores the hidden challenges faced by parents in educating children in the modern era, referred to as “invisible enemies”, focusing on digital technology, individualism, academic pressure, peer influence and consumerist culture. It develops adaptive and responsive strategies to address these hidden challenges as a guide for parents. Employing a literature study with a qualitative-exploratory-descriptive approach, this research analyses the risks of the modern era in child education using Ulrich Beck's risk society theory framework. The findings reveal that parents face various hidden risks, such as exposure to inappropriate digital content, social pressures that undermine collective values, and challenges in balancing child protection with fostering independence. These align with the risk society theory, characterized by the risks arising from technological advancements and social changes, which are not only physical but also psychosocial. In this context, parents act as risk mitigation agents. Their role encompasses not only protecting children from the negative impacts of these risks but also equipping them with adaptive skills, instilling collective values, providing support for emotional balance and interests and fostering independence. This study contributes scientifically to the development of parenting strategies that are more responsive to the challenges of the modern era. It also offers practical guidance for parents, educators, and policymakers to create a resilient, ethical generation capable of navigating future socio-technological dynamics. Abstract

This research seeks to describe the presence of expert witnesses in the Egyptian court system. They are utilizing a literature study whose primary data comes from books, journals, reports, and laws. Then, the data is processed descriptively and analytically to explain the subject matter described. The results showed that expert witnesses, or in Egyptian terms referred to as Expert Witness Reports, are enshrined in the Egyptian Evidence Law, No. 25 of 1968, used in Egyptian courts to obtain specialized advice on specific legal issues. Legal regulations govern the procedure for selecting expert witnesses and require the court to appoint one or three experts who must meet specific criteria. The whole process of the expert report must be conducted within the courtroom. The rules regarding the presence of expert witnesses in Egyptian courts also underline the importance of expert witnesses in legal proceedings. The rules emphasize the efforts made to ensure transparency, accuracy, and excellence in expert witness reports, essential to facilitate dispute resolution in court. The government takes a role in this matter through payment facilities for expert witnesses, not all of which is borne by the parties to the dispute.
