Abstract

Indian Costus species has been mentioned as an herbal remedy for infections in Islamic, Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) literature as well. Using the Indian costus to treat disease is one of the cross-cultural practices, just like cupping therapy and meditation. This would mean that it is safe and beneficial. In the saying (Hadith) of the prophet of Islam, it was prescribed to treat pharyngitis and pleurisy (Ahmad et al., 2009). In TCM, Costus root (Guang Mu Xiang) powder is used to treat gastroenteritis and tenesmus (Nystrom, 2015). In Ayurveda, it is used as a spasmolytic and antiparasitic for intestinal disease (Pandey et al., 2007). Among the pharmacological benefits of costus is the antimicrobial effect. This includes the antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic action of the substances to be discussed here. We did a focus on the antimicrobial effect in the three systems, compared and concluded findings through modern medicine to verify the evidence here.

Abstract

Supraspinatus tendinosis is a common source of shoulder pain. This tendinopathy is in most cases caused by an impingement of the supraspinatus tendon on the acromion as it passes between the acromion and the humeral head. Pain, and a decrease in range of motion, strength and functionality are the main complaints that accompany this injury. Being one of the well-established techniques, Sports wet cupping therapy (WCT) was used to treat a case of Supraspinatus tendinosis in this study. This paper aims to report the improved case of supraspinatus tendinosis using the treatment with sports cupping.  We used sports cupping therapy for treatment of this patient. This case is measured and assessed by visual analogue scale (VAS), shoulder range of motion (ROM) and shoulder physical examination. Results show the VAS decreased from 10 to 1 and the patient showed nearly full shoulder range of motion in forward flexion, abduction, extension, internal rotation and external rotation. In addition, the physical examination of shoulder and MRI was improved. Sports cupping treatment with wet cupping therapy is found to be helpful to relieve pain and recover function of shoulder joint.

Abstract

Black cumin, or Nigella sativa, is a medicinal plant that is extensively recognised and used on a global scale. This study examines the historical use of black seed in both traditional and modern medicine, as well as its antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and anti-parasitic properties. Methods: Data were collected by employing a variety of reputable scientific search engines, such as Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, Taylor & Francis, and Wiley Library…etc. The data was processed and analysed by the author's team to reach the following conclusion: We strongly encourage medical personnel to investigate the integrated application of black cumin as a therapeutic agent alongside contemporary compounds, given the comprehensive antimicrobial efficacy of black seed against pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.
