Abstract

It is a fact that humans use language as a tool to communicate with other people orally and in writing, so that language plays an important role in the learning process. Therefore, teachers try to use good and correct language so that students can emulate it. This study aims to find out how the spelling method is applied to improve the beginning reading skills of grade 1 students at MI Miftahul Huda, Tasikmalaya City. This study used a qualitative approach using interview, observation, and documentation methods to evaluate the application of the spelling method in improving the beginning reading skills of grade 1 MI students in the Indonesian subject at MI Miftahul Huda, Tasikmalaya city. The research was conducted by involving 25 grade 1 MI students as research subjects. Data was collected through interviews with Indonesian teachers, direct observation of the learning process, and documentation of student learning outcomes. Data analysis was carried out by identifying themes that emerged from the results of interviews and observations. The results showed that the application of the spelling method had a positive impact on improving students' beginning reading skills. Through this method, students become more skilled at recognizing letters, reading syllables, and reading simple words. In addition, the spelling method also increases students' motivation and interest in learning Indonesian. This study concludes that the application of the spelling method through a qualitative approach can be effective in improving the beginning reading skills of grade 1 MI students in the Indonesian language subject at MI Miftahul Huda, Tasikmalaya city. This method provides in-depth insight into the learning process and students' experiences in learning to read.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe: the application of the storytelling method as an effort to handle students with speech delays in the inclusive education program at MI Cibangbay Kab. Tasikmalaya. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with a qualitative approach, where data collection techniques are obtained through observation, interviews and document review. Based on this research, the following results were obtained: (1) The ability of students with speech delays before using the storytelling method was seen from very passive (difficult to understand) conversations where students were not yet able to communicate, either with their teacher or with their friends. Meanwhile, when viewed from a social perspective, students tend to be quiet and reluctant to socialize with their friends. (2) The storytelling method is very effective in dealing with children with speech delays. Storytelling can be a fun learning method. The application of the storytelling method at MI Cibangbay is through the teacher's steps in communicating the theme of the story, arranging seating, opening activities, story content and closing. So, when using the storytelling method, there needs to be criteria for selecting a good story for students, including: the story must be interesting, adapted to the child's age, and choosing a theme must be adapted to the material being presented. (3) The ability of students with speech delays after using the storytelling method experienced good development, namely that students gradually began to be able to pronounce words even though they still stammered with quite loud intonation. Also, students begin to show an open attitude (socialize) with their friends and do not cry easily.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dan penggunaan media cerita bergambar terhadap keterampilan membaca pemahaman siswa kelas V MI Yayasan Islam Kota Tasikmalaya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain metode True Eksperimental Design tipe Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik sampling purposive. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa-siswi MI Yayasan Islam tahun pelajaran 2023/2024. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas V-A (kelas eksperimen) berjumlah 13 orang dan V-B (kelas kontrol) berjumlah 15 orang. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik tes, observasi dan dokumentasi. Data kemampuan membaca pemahaman dianalisis menggunakan uji-t, diperoleh hasil nilai Sig (2-tailed) yaitu 0,000 < 0,05. Sesuai dengan kaidah pengambilan keputusan, bahwa nilai sig (2-tailed)< 0,05 atau 0,000 < 0,05 menunjukkan bahwa Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima. Maka terdapat pengaruh media cerita bergambar terhadap keterampilan membaca pemahaman siswa pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia materi menetukan gagasan pokok dan kalimat utama di kelas V MI Yayasan Islam. Terdapat perbedaan nilai hasil keterampilan membaca pemahaman siswa sebelum dan sesudah dilakukan dengan media cerita bergambar dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di kelas V MI Yayasan Islam Tasikmalaya.

Abstract

Terdapat perbedaan nilai hasil keterampilan membaca pemahaman siswa sebelum dan sesudah dilakukan dengan media cerita bergambar dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di kelas V MI Yayasan Islam Tasikmalaya.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the phonic method in beginning reading instruction for first-grade students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Arohmah Dadaha and to examine the students’ learning outcomes following its application. The background of this research stems from the issue of low initial reading ability among students, as many are still unable to read simple words due to weak mastery of phonemes and graphemes. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of the first-grade teacher and students at MI Arohmah Dadaha. The results show that the implementation of the phonic method involves introducing letter sounds individually, practicing the combination of sounds into syllables and words, and utilizing visual aids such as letter cards and pictures. Students demonstrated high enthusiasm, active participation in learning activities, and gradual improvement in their initial reading skills. Therefore, the phonic method is proven effective in helping students recognize letter sounds, form syllables, and read simple words phonetically. This research provides valuable insights for the development of beginning reading instruction, especially at the elementary madrasah level.
