Abstract

Not many kings are also scholars. Not many scholars are also writers. Sultan Muhammad Idrus is a rare figure. He was a sultan (king) who had produced  numerous works in the fields of religion and literature. If all of his works were calculated, they would total more than fifteen. One of his works that needs to be shown to public is Sabīl al-Salām li Bulūgh al-Marām. This book is still manuscipt form. The research method used by the author in this article employs a method of library research. This research reveals several characteristics of the manuscript form of Sabīl al-Salām li Bulūgh al-Marām, Those are, first, the themes addressed in this hadith book, namely, targhīb wa tarhīb, and second, the hadiths are mentioned in short version without including their transmission system (sanad) except for those at the level of companions. Third, the hadiths are not solely derived from the al-kutub al-tis’ah, but also from other sources of hadith books. Additionally, it places the topic of sincerity (ikhlāṣ) not in the first chapter.

Abstract

The explanation of the status of a hadith is very important, especially if the mentioned hadith is not accompanied by a complete chain of transmission. This is particularly relevant in today's context, where not everyone possesses the ability to trace hadith and assess their authenticity. In Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn, there are thirty-eight hadiths whose status al-Nawawī did not evaluate or mention, except for merely citing their sources. This motivated the author to clarify the status of these thirty-eight hadiths to the public, enabling them to distinguish between accepted and rejected hadiths. The author employed the library research method, utilizing qualitative data obtained by searching for the Book of Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn through the Shamela Book Library application and referring to the research findings of three contemporary hadith scholars, such as Muḥammad Nāṣiruddīn al-Albānī, Syu'aib al-Arnā’uṭ, and Alī bin Nāyif al-Syuḥūd. Among these thirty-eight hadiths, twenty hadiths had their validity agreed upon, five hadiths were unanimously considered weak, and thirteen hadiths remained subjects of dispute.

Abstract

There are various ways to comprehend the sayings of the Prophet (hadith)and among them are utilizing the approach of asbab al-Wurud (occasions ofrevelation), linguistic approach, and other approaches. Amidst the currentadvancement of knowledge, it is highly feasible to understand the Prophet'shadith through contemporary disciplines such as employing the social sciencesapproach. In this study, the author endeavors to elucidate Prophet's hadith thatcan be understood using a social sciences approach. The method employed in thisresearch is descriptive analysis through a literature review. This study revealsthat understanding the Prophet's hadith through the lens of social sciences isinevitable, given that the sayings of the Prophet are interconnected with specificcontexts, including the psychology of the interlocutors, geographical factors, andothers.
